Summitt & Milwood Need Your Voice!
AISD Boundary Proposals Could Rezone the School
It's summer, but AISD is moving quickly to adjust boundaries for schools. Your voice can have a MAJOR impact on the future of our school and neighborhood.

The district has released two initial maps -- "Oak" and "Elm" -- with proposed changes. They are asking for community feedback and holding open houses to get the public's take on these potential maps. Your feedback will then be used to create a final map.

The potential impact for Summitt students & Milwood is large. The "Elm" scenario leaves Summitt as a feeder for Murchison MS and then Anderson HS, where it has been for decades. However, the "Oak" scenario places Summitt in the Burnet MS feeder instead.

Burnet MS has repeatedly received failing "F" grades from the TEA and has been proposed by AISD to be reworked as a charter school to avoid a state takeover.

If you have kids at Summitt, you can see how this would be a drastic change. Even if you don't have kids there, changing the feeder pattern could have a major impact on Milwood's desirability.

IMPORTANT: WHAT YOU CAN DO (MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD)
Most Important: Attend An Open House in Person
AISD is holding open houses (including two on Zoom) for public feedback. These are open to everyone and showing up to comment has the most visible impact in advocating for our school.

The next open house is:
June 15, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (show up anytime in that window)
Austin High School (1715 W Cesar Chavez St.)

Many in the neighborhood are already planning to attend, so you won't be alone! Kids are welcomed as well.

Still Very Important: Provide Online Comments
Everyone should fill out the online comment card to share your thoughts on the proposed maps, even if you aren't an AISD parent. The more feedback, the better!

Budget Comments
Additional budget changes such as class sizes, technology, student programs and moving to a "hub" system for school buses can be commented on here.

This years food drive haul. We did good Walnuts! Thank you to all who donated.

Howdy Walnuts!
Even though the Food Drive box has been brought in, donations of non perishable food can be left on the porch at 12105 Scribe Dr. until November 9th.

10/21/2025

Calling all Walnuts! Drop donations of non parishable food items to 12105 Scribe DR. for the annual WXNA Halloween Food Drive. Food banks and pantries are struggling to meet higher than usual demands this year. Every donation, no matter how small can have a huge impact to help folks in our community (and our own neighborhood) that are having a rough time of it. Let's pull together and make a difference for those who need it. All items benefit the Central Texas Food Bank and their pantries. The box will be on the porch until November 9th and food can be donated any time before or after Halloween up until then. We live in a great community and have much to be grateful for, so get out in the neighborhood on Halloween night for Trick or Treat; it's safe, FREE, a great way to meet neighbors and keeps our Walnut community strong. Keep the tradition of Halloween in Walnut Crossing alive and while you're out on October 31st drop a few cans into the box! Kernan will be handing out suasage wraps! Looking forward to seeing folks Halloween Night! , , , ,
