πͺ° BE AWARE: New World Screwworm
As a precautionary measure, Travis County Judge Andy Brown has issued a local disaster declaration to encourage vigilance and early reporting.
New World Screwworm is a parasitic fly that can affect livestock, wildlife, pets and, in rare cases, people. Thereβs currently no documented case here in Travis County, but we want everyone to be aware.
Early detection is key. Watch for unusual wounds that do not heal, wounds containing visible larvae (maggots), or signs of infection in livestock and pets.
Suspected cases in wildlife should be reported to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Suspected cases in livestock should be reported to the Texas Animal Health Commission.
