The take that became my cover of “poison oak.” It was important to me that the final release was one take from top to bottom, and this is the take. Recorded live to cassette (and video recorded on a Hi8 camcorder - can’t get enough of those clunky analog workflows, apparently).

“poison oak” is out today. It feels inappropriate to be promoting myself right now, but art connects us to our humanity, so here I am posting about it. This song has been special to me for a long time (swipe to see how long), and it’s one that I felt before I really understood. I wanted this cover to celebrate what makes art human, so I recorded it live to cassette. No edits, no scrubbing out imperfections. It is what it is, and I’m proud of it.

I took the cover photo on the road in or near Big Bend NP. A place that I cherish and land that I love. A beautiful expanse of a desert shared with Mexico, where you can look into the near distance and not know whether the mountains you see are in the US or in Mexico. The notion of separation dissolves.
None of my covers are on bandcamp, but if you feel compelled to grab anything over there, I’ll be donating 100% of my payout for the next week to . That goes for , too. So many of my recordings for that project have been made on the border, looking across the river and saying, “Hey, that’s Mexico.”
NO ONE IS ILLEGAL ON STOLEN LAND.
Slide two is from when my mom and I took the commuter train to see play Auditorium Shores in 2011. It was a supermoon that night.
Slide three is 2011 me covering this song, hidden away in the corner of the house where no one could hear me.

I’m releasing a cover of “poison oak” on 01/31/2026. As you can imagine, I have some thoughts about recording philosophy. I think these are too important to let them be buried in a caption.
Art is human expression. Don’t let anyone take that from you.
(fingers crossed that the cover license clears in time, lol)

Hello, been a while. LP1 is still happening, slowly but surely. It’s taken a number of unexpected turns in its development. Some songs that I figured would for sure be on the album have been cut. New songs have been written and folded in, more ancient recordings have been exhumed and given new purpose. The person I was when I began recording these songs could never have anticipated where the album is heading now.
Nothing to announce or promote. Just here to say I’m still working on it. :)

First lingren set in well over five years was very sweet and special!! Here’s a short clip of my song “I’m not there.” Shoutout to the friends who facetimed with me so I could practice singing in front of people, and endless gratitude to the sweeties who showed up late on a school night to support me. Thanks to Nakia for asking me to play and to C-Boy's Heart & Soul for hosting Out Late. I’m grateful to have been a part of week one. Happy Pride! Love is real!!!

Surprise! I’m sharing a “new” song for Bandcamp Friday. I wrote “I’m not there” last year for a contest that I didn’t win, but really I did win because it’s been a year and I still like this song. It’ll probably be on whatever album comes after the one I’m currently working on, but here’s this version for now. Available today only on Bandcamp. Link in bioooo
