Thinking about that time I got to create senior portraits on top of a volcano.

A wonderful friend/client sent me this pic today. She has printed albums from all of the holiday mini sessions her kids have taken part in. I was so impressed and I can’t wait to look through these albums in person soon. So many memories!!! So many outstanding creations by . So many years flying by watching these kids grow up. How magical to have been a part of tradition for nearly a decade!!!!

We *are* doing the minis again this year, but of course, had to change things up a bit because of the move. If you want to come play this weekend (only 4 openings left), shoot me an email [email protected]

For more than two decades, this has been 💗Home💗 with a capital H. A dream imagined by two young kids in love and brought to life by the minds of and literal blood, sweat, and tears from ourselves, friends, and family, (some of whom have since passed, which makes it all the more difficult to move). Most of these boards were placed with our own hands. Even our children have contributed to this life’s (living) work. Two of them were literally born here! This is the only home our kids have ever known.

I can’t believe this chapter of our family’s story is ending, but with our babies leaving one by one, it was time to make our nest a tad more manageable.

I am so grateful for all of the gorgeous sessions we’ve had out here on this land, for the annual holiday mini sessions at the studio, and for all of the beautiful people who stayed here when we were hosting photography workshops. It is impossible to put into words what each of those core moments have meant to me. I am so grateful to have shared a piece of our dream home with you.

The other day, I came home to discover a young man slumped over in his (un-airconditioned) truck, unable to move, barely able to speak, suffering from extreme heat exhaustion. He was able to contact 911 and help arrived shortly after I found him. It was obviously very painful and quite scary for him. I had no idea how hot those trucks were, but it’s really bad. Besides a cooler and working to reduce my deliveries, can you all help me think of any other ways to help?

Once again, has said it all perfectly. I have embraced my son’s graduation with as much happiness as I could for his sake, but it has not been without immense sorrow for every person and child who has unnecessarily and senselessly had their lives cut short because gun violence has become an accepted part of our country’s culture.

And guilt. I carry so much guilt. How were we lucky enough to make it this far when so many have not been given these same chances to live a full life? Guilt for having a graduation celebration when many parents just a few hours away are planning funerals for their babies.

We are choosing to allow this to continue. It is beyond time to take action and put a stop to this insanity.

I wrote this poem after the massacre in Uvalde, Texas. Though it was hard to find the words to write poetry about horrific, unintelligible tragedy, I was moved after a few thoughts I posted here turned into $1 million successfully raised for for Gun Safety in just 3 days. The one thing I know how to do when times are dark is to write. And that’s what I’ll keep doing, even when told poetry can never make a difference against a gun. As Audre Lorde said, “poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence. It forms the quality of the light within which we predicate our hopes and dreams toward survival and change, first made into language, then into idea, then into more tangible action.” If this poem speaks to you, speak back—act. A good place to start is following & texting BOLD to 644-33. To everyone who has already shared and donated, thank you, thank you, thank you. I see you. I love you. I cherish you💛💛💛

#1 of 40 B4 40 - The post on my blog just now (http://pinkletoesblogstalker.com/blog/prettiest-baby-girl-prettiest-nursery-many-adorable-chins-austin-newborn-photography/) begins #1 of "40 B4 40" = 40 blog posts before I turn 40 ;-). Technically, I don't turn 40 until 110 days, but I'm not about to commit to 110 days of blogging and 40 B4 40 sounded nicer and I gotta do something to force myself to try to make a dent in all the blogging I have left to do. Wish me luck!
