A powerful new supercomputer is in full production at TACC!

At nearly 10 petaflops and offering tremendous capability for diverse scientific applications, Stampede3 is enabling computational and data-driven science and engineering research and education with a modern foundation and new capabilities for thousands of projects and users nationwide.

TACC also added an experimental Intel GPU hardware subsystem for artificial intelligence and machine learning, further advancing The University of Texas at Austin's "Year of AI" initiative, and highlighting AI data processing capabilities.

At Bio-IT World 2024, AI Applications Take Center Stage 04/19/2024

This week's Bio-IT World Conference & Expo included three tracks about AI-based applications, including a new one focused on Generative AI.

TACC Executive Director Dan Stanzione gave the first keynote titled “Unleashing the Power of Advanced Computing in Bioinformatics.” He noted that historically bioinformatics drove the evolution of TACC, but that shifted a few years ago to AI as scientists continue to generate large quantities of multimodal datasets.

Congratulations to Clint Dawson who received the The University of Texas at Austin 2024 President's Research Impact Award! Dawson, a longtime TACC collaborator, developed a simulation code used worldwide in ocean modeling and hurricane storm surge predictions to help leaders know whether to evacuate and where to stage resources, saving lives and property. 🏆

The first-ever research summit for the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Chishiki AI project took place last week at TACC. The summit fostered collaboration between cyberinfrastructure professionals, AI experts, and civil engineers. They focused on developing strategies, tools, and algorithms to integrate AI into civil engineering applications such as construction automation, smart cities, and disaster response.

Scinet Sprints Into Action at TACC! During the week of the international Supercomputing Conference (SC) each November, SCinet becomes the fastest network on Earth. SCinet teams, including the TACC team (which consists of SCinet Deputy Chair Nathaniel Mendoza, Remy Scott, Corey Eichelberger, and Alexander Barnes), met at TACC this week for in-person working sessions, or “sprints,” as they race toward SC24 in Atlanta, GA. https://sc24.supercomputing.org/scinet/
