Working to retain Austin, Texas's status as a No Kill community through the implementation of proven programs and policies.

11/02/2022

🚨🚨🚨 SOS 🚨🚨🚨

We have over 200 dogs at the shelter and we need your help desperately. We are offering FREE adoptions for all medium-to-large adult dogs (and adult cats) to help us make space. Preview all adoptable animals at wilcopets.org, then schedule an appointment by emailing [email protected]. Walk-ins are also welcomed from noon-6pm.

Fosters can also help! If you can help by fostering a medium-to-large adult dog for two weeks, please come to the shelter as soon as possible. There is no approval process, just come in and let staff know you're here to help by fostering.

Rescues can also help by pulling dogs into their programs.

We can only maintain our no kill status with your help. There is no other way. Please help. Now is the time.

Austin’s Animal Shelters Struggle to Uphold No-Kill Reputation in the Face of Overcrowding 08/04/2022

We’re not fans of the Chronicle’s coverage of animal welfare issues over the years. They want controversy where there often isn’t any. They want to paint everyone in animal welfare as tarnished when the truth is more complex. But, in our opinion, the state of Austin Animal Center and the need for new leadership at AAC is accurately recounted here.

Our numbers this week are grim. 42 more dogs have come into the shelter than have left. To put that into perspective for you, we could almost fill another entire adoption building with those 42 more dogs that have come in than have left.

We are offering πŸ†“ adoptions of ALL pets through Sunday. We have 180 dogs and 208 cats at the shelter right now, so we are sure to have a dog or cat that will fit in great in your home. Email πŸ“¨[email protected] for an appointment to reduce your wait time.

If you can't adopt, please foster a medium-to-large adult dog. Interested fosters can head up to the shelter at any time during normal business hours - noon-6pm seven days a week. We can help with supplies, if available!

Pictured is Egypt, who is estimated to be 3 years old. She is 46 pounds, up to date on all her shots, spayed & microchipped, a regal beauty, and she is ready to be adopted.
