We are proudly shining the spotlight on each of our Faculty Excellence Award winners.

Congratulations to Shatoi King, PhD, MSN, RN-BC, CNE, recipient of our Excellence in Education Award! Dr. King is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Undergraduate Studies and BSN Honors Program Coordinator in our UTMB School of Nursing in Galveston.

With more than 18 years' nursing experience, she brings work experience from several nursing areas, including medical-surgical, labor and delivery, women’s surgery, pediatrics, and nurse management. Dr. King employs a variety of innovative teaching techniques that cater to diverse learning styles, employing case studies and interactive lectures to ensure students understand theoretical concepts and develop practical skills that are essential in clinical settings. SON graduate Mikayla Courville shares, "She creates a safe and respectful learning environment where students feel valued and supported."

Dr. Deborah J. Jones, Senior Vice President and Dean at the UTMB School of Nursing, and Dr. Cindy Weston, Founding Dean at UNT Health Science Center College of Nursing and a UTMB SON alum, presented findings as Co-Chairs of the “Modernizing the Production Model” Workgroup, part of the Governor’s Inaugural Healthcare Workforce Task Force. Their insights on leveraging technology and innovation through academic practice partnerships were shared to strengthen the Texas nursing workforce pipeline.
