While most of the country prepares for cooler weather and late season festivities, we hunker down for the late summer heat that reminds us good things come to those who can stand with the September sun ☀️

The late months of the year are when most of our urban forest's unique tree species are putting out their seeds. Seed collection continues all the way until December! So, if you haven't gotten the opportunity yet, help us collect seeds to grow in our nursery this upcoming season 🤠

Congratulations to Bethany Cemetery for their designation as a City of Austin Landmark!

Established in 1893, Bethany Cemetery is the oldest known Black cemetery in Austin, providing burials to African Americans in Austin at a time when there were few options to do so.

TreeFolks is honored to be a partner to this important city landmark and to help Bethany Cemetery with its restoration efforts by planting trees and caring for the existing ones on the land. We're also incredibly honored to partner with our friends at blackaustintours and grateful for their guidance in leading us through a tour of the space during our planting event last season.

Situated along the banks of Waller Creek, one of the largest measured Durand Oaks in Texas overlooks Waterloo Greenway at Palm Park and along the trail of the newly opened Phase II: The Confluence. This tree is a true living landmark, measuring an astonishing 68 inches in diameter, with sprawling limbs that have weathered an estimated 200+ years.

Having witnessed centuries of Austin's history unfold along the creek, this oak must hold a million stories in its leaves, branches, bark, trunk, and roots. It was named the 2014 State Champion for its species and has been admired by many generations of visitors. A storyteller in its own right, its burly trunk and time-worn form are a testament to resilience and endurance. Visitors can stand beneath its canopy, embrace its shade, and feel inspired by this unique and wonderful character in our midst!

Alright, friends! The time has come...
After 2+ years of growing native trees from local seeds at our nursery, we're excited to announce that we'll be hosting our very first tree sale! 🌱

TreeFolks Native Tree Sale will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at TreeFolks, 10803 Platt Ln, Austin, TX 78725 📍

We’ll have a variety of one-gallon native Texas trees, along with a limited selection of five-gallon riparian species, grown from locally sourced seeds at our Seeds to Trees Native Nursery. Available trees will include harder-to-find species such as Blanco Crabapple and Escarpment Black Cherry. 🍒

Trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so come early to find something special for your landscape. All proceeds from the sale will support TreeFolks programs and our work to grow and care for a healthier, more resilient Central Texas urban forest. 🌳

💌🌳 TREEMAIL NIGHT 🌳💌
Tuesday, September 15th, from 6–8 PM
Join us for an indoor, hands-on volunteer event where you can help kick off the next season of the Central Texas Floodplain Reforestation Program in the comfort of air conditioning. We’ll be assembling outreach mailers for landowners across Central Texas—folding, stamping, highlighting, and adding a few handwritten touches that make a big difference in getting folks to sign up.

Here’s a chance to get some steps in! Meet us at the TreeFolks headquarters to help the NeighborWoods team unload and label 1,000 5-gallon trees for distribution.

Fall is tree planting season in Austin! Our goal is to increase tree canopy to 50% citywide by 2050. To meet this goal, we must protect the trees we have while planting and caring for new ones.
