Art has always been political, and The Neon Republic brings together two urgent, interconnected practices at a moment when truth is contested, history is banned, and the symbols we grew up with are being weaponized in plain sight.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Autumn Mae makes the invisible machinery of power visible. Chris Tobar reclaims the myth — and rebuilds it from the inside out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is what art looks like when it refuses to be decorative. When it insists on being honest. When it shows up, even now — especially now.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An act of resistance. An act of imagination. An act of love.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Neon Republic Exhibit — on view through April 30th–online & in-person. Come meet the artists at our April Open House on Friday, April 24th.

Meet Chris « Tobar » Rodriguez — our second featured visionary artist anchoring The Neon Republic Exhibit. His universe expands the walls of this show and dares you to ride into it 🔥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Born in Chicago. Detoured through Orlando. Grounded in Texas. Tobar creates from the in-between — between North and South, tradition and imagination, visibility and erasure. That in-between is not a gap. It’s the whole terrain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
His universe is The Neon Rodeo: a neon-lit, mythic Western landscape where the cowboy is not a symbol of conquest, but of searching. Of endurance. Of identity under pressure. Through bold color, layered symbolism, mirrors, and projection, Tobar reframes Western iconography as a space for Black, Brown, and non-binary presence — not as outsiders, but as architects of their own myth.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And threading it all together: K-RDEO 88.8 FM; his fictional pirate radio station, broadcasting autobiography, folklore, and cultural memory beyond the canvas and into lived experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
« The Neon Rodeo is not an escape. It’s a reclamation. It’s the journey of staying in the saddle long enough to discover who you really are. »
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The ride continues at The Neon Republic Exhibit 🔥
On view through April 30th–online & in-person. Come meet the artists at our April Open House on Friday, April 24th.

Meet — artist, anthropologist, and one of the two visionary voices behind The Neon Republic Exhibit 🔥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Autumn Mae’s practice is a living field study. Every series is a new inquiry. Every material — PVC, plastic, paint, joint compound — is chosen by the idea itself. She doesn’t begin with a medium; she follows a question until the title reveals itself and the artwork becomes the peer review.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What emerges is psycho-geography made visible: histories of cultural progression, oppression, and reflection, rendered with aesthetic precision and reflexive objectivity. Her work is the gentle approach to the difficult conversation. The ice breaker. The catalyst.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Across three chapters — WWZ: A Study of the Present Day Politics in Plastic, Block Universe Theory, and Red vs Blue: The Fatality of Universe 25 — Autumn Mae traces the symbols we carry, the systems we inherit, and the moral war we are already inside.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
« It’s not a class war. It’s not a political war. It’s a moral war. »
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Exhibit on view through April 30th–online & in-person. Come meet the artists at our April Open House on Friday, April 24th.
