Will Mouthwash Like Listerine, Scope, or Peridex Kill Coronavirus or Covid-19?

The answer is NO. At this point, there is no evidence that mouthwashes protect you from Coronavirus.

However, it appears from a recent study, that 1% hydrogen peroxide will reduce the salivary load of the coronavirus. The American Dental Association is recommending dentists have patients rinse with 1% hydrogen peroxide for 1 minute before starting any dental procedure. It is sold usually as 3% hydrogen peroxide and can be diluted by adding water.

Thus at home it's advisable to disinfect your toothbrush with hydrogen peroxide; even soak your mouthguard and retainers in it for 5-10 minutes. You can even rinse your mouth with 1% hydrogen peroxide for 60 seconds.

When do I know if I have fever?

Fevers are defined as any body temperature above 98.6 degrees.

In medical field 97-100 degree is the acceptable range , Tylenol/Acetaminophen is recommended for temperature above 101. Some physicians prefer to give medication once at 100.5 degree.

At Advanced Smile Center our number one priority has always been the health and safety of our patients. Often in times of uncertainty, there can be a wealth of misinformation spread, especially in today’s digital age. According to the latest reports from the CDC and other national healthcare providers, the current health risks are minimal for most age groups. We recommend all of our patients to wash their hands frequently, avoid close contact with people who are sick, and stay home if you aren’t feeling well.

At Advanced Smile center we follow strict cleaning policies for the protection of both our staff and our patients. Each staff member maintains rigorous personal hygiene standards as well as using new gloves and face masks for every patient interaction. We use hospital-grade disinfectants across the entire office, with extensive room cleaning after each patient to ensure a safe and clean environment. After each use, all dental instruments receive the highest level of medical sterilization available. These processes have always been of utmost importance in our office and will continue to be the standards we uphold for our community.
