Apple's new IOS system increases the end user's control over their data.

I think this is great. Facebook, on the other hand, takes it as an attack on small businesses.

I can tell you first hand, considering I worked as a contractor for a consulting firm that worked for Facebook to consult small businesses on the FB advertising platform....Facebook will not go above and beyond for your small business.

The program I was a part of allocated 20 minutes per call and 2 calls maximum per customer. I did not have direct contact to any additional support should a customer have policy questions or otherwise.

And you can see in the comments that small business owners are calling Facebook out on this. And they have every right.

When you invest in your consumers, they will fight for you. If you treat them as disposable, they will do the same to you.

(And no, the irony isn't lost on me that I've posted this on FB 🙃)

Is TikTok a harmless app or a threat to U.S. security? 11/16/2020

TikTok has been a hot topic on the podcasts I listen to and in the news. Last night I caught a decent portion of the 60 Minutes segment on TikTok (side note: watching 60 Minutes confirms that I'm turning into my father) - did you get a chance to watch? What are your thoughts on TikTok, its collection of data and subsequent algorithm, and its connection to the Chinese Government?

Is TikTok a harmless app or a threat to U.S. security? It's billed itself as "the last sunny corner on the internet," but is TikTok really a tool for China to obtain troves of data on Americans? Bill Whitaker reports.

Small and local businesses, stand proud! Don't forget to market that you're local, you're veteran/women/BIPOC owned, and what your values are. You'll attract customers who align and, more importantly, will remain LOYAL!

Here's more from Google:

"In the US, 46% of surveyed shoppers agreed that "I make a deliberate effort to shop at businesses that align with my values,"11 and searches for "support local businesses" have grown globally by over 20,000% YoY.12

With Google My Business, you can add attributes like “outdoor seating,” “credit cards accepted,” “black-owned,” or “women-led” to help customers know who you are and what you care about."

11/09/2020

According to Google, "73% of US shoppers said they will shop online more this holiday than previous seasons." And surprise surprise, they're shopping RIGHT NOW.

Why? They're worried stores will be out of stock. So I'm not saying you need to add "low inventory" or "limited quantities" to your sites...but I'm not NOT saying it. :wink wink:

A few updates on Facebook and Instagram over the past week:

- Facebook/Instagram dropped location search and tagging from its API. Meaning your third party tools will not be able to add locations to posts.

-Instagram has *temporarily* removed it's "recent" tab within the Discovery function, meaning it'll only show the top posts of any tags. Yes, this has to do with the US election and therefore only impacts US users.

-Facebook Ads Manager has removed its demographics and placements breakdowns from the main "campaign tab" and is placing it else. TBD on where that's moving to (aka I haven't had a second to find it yet)

-Instagram reactions on a story are moving OUT of your DMs and will live on the story itself. Hurry for a less cluttered Insta inbox!
