Artificial / Synthetic Turf Installations at Airports World Wide
The AvTurf system replaces the natural ground cover at an airport to provide erosion control, reduce debris-causing effects of jet blast, deter birds and animals, stabilize runways, taxiways and infield islands. It also enhances pilots’ visibility on approach, reduces maintenance needs in safety areas, and provides stable areas for emergency response vehicles to drive through and directly to a situation.

To address the problem of burrowing gopher tortoises in their runway grass, Orlando Sanford turned to AvTurf as a viable long-term solution.
The FAA conducted a one-year study on the plot, to evaluate its effectiveness. In fact, the study detected no tortoise burrowing in the area, while also demonstrating AvTurf is compatible with safe airport operations, durable to passive environmental factors, and is not attractive to other hazardous species.
