In late October, two orphaned cougars were found by a rancher on his property in Washington state. At an estimated four weeks old, it was unlikely that the brothers would survive on their own in the wild.

When word was sent out that the Houston Zoo had the capacity to care for cougars, the Washington State Fish & Wildlife Services reached out. In just days, the cougar cubs were flown to Texas to get a second chance at life through the care of experts at the zoo.

Now eight weeks old, they have been named Shasta VII and Louie. Together, they will continue the tradition of proudly representing the spirit of the University of Houston through the University of Houston Alumni Association's partnership with the Houston Zoo.

Shasta VII has already shown himself to be the calm, protective leader of the duo as they get acclimated to their new home in private. He often sleeps with a paw resting over Louie. ❤️

This is wild! After years, decades, I don’t even know anymore, my mother sold a multi-family complex that she has had and worked tirelessly to maintain.

She is the definition of devotion and grit. My mother has always been the backbone of my support system and made sure I never lacked, made sure no matter what I did, my life path trajectory was moving forward.

This is a small example of that. A way that she made sure that I was supported, I had a way to learn and understand the meaning of hard work and also the beauty of faith.

I love you Ma and congratulate you on this sale and any and all future success the universe brings your way!! You deserve this and the world!
