This , Crosswind is honored to celebrate a true hero in one of our very own families. John Louis Shelton was born in the little mining town of Dawson, NW in 1925 during the Great Depression.
He was drafted into the US Navy at the age of 18, and joined the 271.43 Company. His first assignment was at Pearl Harbor, but he was fortunate enough to have avoided the attack. By the time Japan surrendered in 1945, he was working at Loran Station in the Tokyo Bay. John was discharged from the navy as a Second-Class Radarman, and transitioned into the US Army later that year as a member of the Army Air Corp.
He moved to Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico where he eventually met and married Janet Williams in 1953. They were lovingly married for 63 years. John left the military in 1967 as a Master Sergeant after 24 years of service.
Now retired, he spends his days with his friends and lovely family, including our very own Carly Shelton.
Happy Veterans Day to John Shelton and everyone else who has served our wonderful country. Thank you.
