American Gateways has welcomed a new team of interns this summer. Kayla Trujillo is from Laredo, Texas and graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently assisting with a defensive asylum case. We look forward to working with Kayla and assisting more people at AG! 🙌🏽

Juneteenth, first observed as "Emancipation Day" in 1866 in Galveston, Texas, holds deep significance for many and was officially recognized as a state holiday in 1979. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles and triumphs in the journey toward freedom for Black individuals. Today, the significance of this event is acknowledged worldwide. We honor this milestone, recognizing its vital role in our shared history and the ongoing journey toward equality and understanding.

We are so happy to announce the release of Mrs. Aguirre from the Dilley Detention Center. These victories give us hope and remind us of why we do this work. American Gateways will continue fighting for those inside these unjust detention centers! Every person and every story matters. 📢
