Hi LIFE project family!
Our LIFErs have been busy bees all spring as we’ve worked hard rolling out our updated prevocational program and learning activities. It’s time to introduce some summer time fun by creating an outdoor space on our patio for our participants to enjoy. We are needing to purchase the following items:

-Outdoor misting fans x2
-Water hose x2
-Set of 4 patio chairs with cushions
-Umbrella with base

I’ve added pics below for reference of the type of items we want to purchase. We’ve priced everything out to an approximate cost of $1600. Please contact us at [email protected] or 512-549-4539 if you are able to donate.

Thanks!!!!

UPDATE: With our state rolling back restrictions, we at The LIFE Project will continue to operate with precautions in place for the time being. While we respect everyone’s freedom of choice with regards to making personal health decisions, we have a responsibility to protect the population we serve which includes those who are considered high risk.

🔹Our staff and visitors will continue to wear masks and undergo health screening upon arrival.
🔹Our LIFER’s will continue receiving temperature checks upon arrival and their seating areas will continue to be spaced apart.
🔹We will continue frequent hand washing/sanitizing.
🔹We will continue our detailed sanitizing and disinfecting protocol for our learning center and all materials and equipment we use.

Following these precautions have allowed us to operate with ZERO instance of covid-19 illness among our staff and clients. It is our hope to continue to do so.

Dear L.I.F.E. Project Family,

As you know, the COVID-19 remains a fluid situation that we have been closely monitoring. It was our intention to stay open as long as we were able to do so. However, HHS has mandated a lock down and we will not be able to provide services at this time. This is difficult for us because we truly love our participants and we are fully committed to our mission. However, the health and safety of our LIFErs and of our LIFE Project family is first and foremost. Please know that we will re-open when we are able to do so.
Much Love,
Vel & Maria Londono

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Dear L.I.F.E. Project Family,

As you know, we have been closely monitoring the ongoing situation with COVID-19. We have already been implementing the recommendations specified by the CDC. However, based on the latest guidance we have received from Texas Health and Human Services (HHS), we are making some significant changes to our procedures starting tomorrow, Tuesday, 3/17/20. These restrictions will be in effect until further notice.

1. Only the following people are to be allowed access to our center -- participants, staff members, persons with legal authority to enter, including law enforcement officers, HHSC staff; professionals providing services to participants, transport staff, and parents/caregivers who have participants enrolled and present at the operation.

2. We will screen everyone of the above authorized people upon arrival at the school and deny entry if any of the following criteria is met:

~ A temperature of 100.4°F or above;
~ Signs or symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as a cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and low-grade fever;
~ In the previous 14 days has had contact with someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19; is under investigation for COVID-19; or is ill with a respiratory illness; or
~ In the previous 14 days has traveled internationally to countries with widespread, sustained community transmission. For updated information on affected countries, visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/travelers/index.html

3. If at any time a staff member or participant shows any symptoms of illness listed above, they will be sent home. Parents, caregivers, and/or provider staff will be notified and they must be picked up immediately.

4. Hands are to be washed and/or sanitized upon arrival.

5. Lunch bags and personal bags are being disinfected before storage.

5. Drop-off and pick-up will be restricted only to the front foyer or to the restroom if needed, even for parents and caregivers. We will have staff members available to es**rt your loved one from there into the center. We ask that parents, caregivers, and transport staff DO NOT linger once we have screened your loved one and they are cleared to attend for the day.

6. We have spread out the seating of our participants in order to increase the distance between them.

7. We have minimized the sharing of materials between participants for now and instead assigning them certain materials and activities for the day.

8. As is our standard procedure, surfaces, toys, games, materials, continue to be thoroughly sanitized on a daily basis.

9. As is our standard procedure, all tables, chairs, restrooms and kitchen areas continue to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily.

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy place for your loved one to attend on a daily basis. It is our intention to remain of service with these precautions in place unless otherwise mandated by HHS officials. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify you of any changes or updates. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Much Love,
Vel & Maria Londono

This is Elijah! He is one of our LIFER’s. After a wonderful time at Zumbathon this past April, his health began to quickly decline. The last few months his amazing mom has been advocating for him to receive proper treatment. With months of testing and no answers from his doctors here in Texas, she took it upon herself to travel to the Mayo Clinic in MN in order to get him much needed medical treatment. She took unpaid medical leave, time away from her other kids, and scraped together the funds to travel to the Mayo Clinic twice for testing and then for surgery. We have missed him at The L.I.FE. Project! I am happy to report that although this little guy had some serious medical issues going on, he is a fighter and he has successfully made it through his surgeries. Please keep Elijah and his mom Norma in your prayers.

Congratulations to the seniors at Rosedale! We are so proud to be partnered as community based instruction site with Rosedale. We’ve had the privilege of working with some of the seniors who graduated, one of which will transition into our program next month. Congrats once more to you and your families for this milestone.

Ten students completed their time at Rosedale School this afternoon in what Principal Elizabeth Dickey called “AISD’s first and best graduation.”

Dickey welcomed family, friends and teachers to the packed cafeteria for the ceremony at Rosedale, and shared details about each student’s achievements and favorite activities.

About graduate Leonardo Perez Suarez, Dickey said, “The one word that best describes Leo is, ‘feisty.’ Leo has a tendency to demand attention from those he loves. Everyone on this campus has a story about how he has made them laugh.”

Our Story

We are a unique non-profit organization that is focused on providing a day program which develops the skills of young adults with autism, neurological, and developmental disorders so that they may continue to lead active and engaged lives. It is our belief that LEARNING IS FOR EVERYONE. Our organization is led by caring people who have a sincere love for the population we serve. Our individualized program allows each participant to complete tasks at their ability with the goal of increased independence. Our program has a small student to instructor ratio which allows for more intensive and individualized attention. More importantly these young adults who would otherwise graduate to the couch, will no longer be left out of the continued education process.

We do have a very small thrift boutique in the front of our learning space. You are welcome to donate boutique style items such as jewlery, accessories, and decor. Donations are accepted by appointment only.

General information

We are a thrift store, a learning center, and a community based family. We help young adults with severe autism, neurological, and developmental disorders. We do this by teaching these young adults life skills, job training, and social integration. we give the participants opportunities to practice the skills they have learned in the programs thrift shop. This gives them a chance to interact with customers and volunteers. The program is meant to be affordable for those with low incomes to ensure that everyone has the chance for continued learning! When you shop at the thrift store you are helping fund the education of young adults who have been left out of the continued learning process. You are helping bring exposure to a population that seems to have always been misunderstood by the public. When you volunteer with us you are aiding in the continued learning process and social integration for these young adults. We want to thank you and encourage you to continue helping, because we could not do it without you!
