ACG Education: Meet Francisco De La Rosa 06/16/2026

Francisco De La Rosa is a marvelous musician who we first met when he was a student in our guitar class at Akins High School about fifteen years ago. From the beginning, he made a big impression on us with his generous spirit and his love of guitar. Francisco went on to major in music at Texas State University and then joined ACG as a teaching artist where he’s given back to our community as a music teacher and mentor. Francisco has inspired students through our Juvenile Justice Services, in our community programs, and in many Austin schools.

Francisco recently sat down to reflect on his path with ACG, and we’d like to share his beautiful words with you today.

We are thrilled to announce that flamenco legend and dear friend of ACG, Carlos Piñana, is making his way back to Austin all the way from Murcia, Spain next month to host an exciting flamenco workshop and three performances at The Rosette!

Carlos will perform July 18-19 with his longtime collaborator and master percussionist, Miguel Ángel Orengo. These two massive talents will light up the Rosette stage with electrifying music and will have us stomping and clapping in our seats!

If you’re in town, we hope you’ll take this chance for a journey with us to Andalucía at the speed of sight and sound.

This course is curated to classical guitarists or guitarists familiar with finger-style technique that are interested in learning more about flamenco. There is an option for players new to flamenco, and a more advanced option for those already familiar.

We are thrilled to announce that ticket packages for the 2026-27 season, Friendship, are now available!

Our 6-concert Live at The Rosette series opens with Ana Vidovic in September and continues with a star-studded cast of some of our dearest friends including Jorge Caballero, Xuefei Yang, and David Russell.

Our ACG Originals series of four concerts includes a new original score for the 1926 silent film The Adventures of Prince Achmed by husband and wife duo, Amanda and Celil Refik Kaya, a beautiful film score collaboration with Austin Chamber Music Center, a deep musical celebration of friendship with our very own Matt Hinsley, and an incredible performance of Joe Williams’ monumental original score for Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lodger (1927) featuring Bion Tsang and the Great Necks Guitar Trio.

Find ticket packages here: https://austinclassicalguitar.org/2026-27-friendship-packages/

The Rosette is an intimate venue, and most of our major events sell out in advance. Our ticket packages are a great way to make sure you have the seats you want, all season long.

Tickets for individual concerts and live-stream events will go on sale June 6.

Concert & Sight Reading 2026 - Austin 05/08/2026

We’d love to share a story where two worlds of ACG Education came together in a beautiful way:

Since 2012, ACG has offered Texas’ only Guitar Ensemble Concert and Sight Reading Contest. Structured after similar events for band and orchestra that promote teaching community and quality, over a thousand students and teachers gather and perform concerts they have worked hard on throughout the year and test their sight reading abilities. We now offer this event in six locations across the state to serve our many partner programs.

Since about the same time, we have also been privileged to create and sustain Texas’ first and only daily, for-credit performing arts course for young people incarcerated in the Juvenile Justice system. We currently provide daily instruction in Travis, Williamson, and Dallas Counties. However, in all of Texas history, students in detention have never had the opportunity to participate in events like Concert & Sight Reading Contest.

Until now.

“All three of my groups received the highest rating,” gushed Dr. Noe Garcia, our teacher in Dallas County, whose students were able to participate by audio recording submission. “I was very excited for them, as many of my students shared that they have never previously received trophies or medals. It is especially meaningful to be able to provide this experience for them…”
