Thank you, Bike Mart! It's going to be all hands on deck for this upcoming lege session as we educate our legislators about biking and walking in Texas and what we need from them.

BikeTexas staff pause today to reflect on what was lost and honor the memories of the victims of the 9/11 attack, as well as the survivors and first responders who have been lost to 9/11-related illnesses in the years since. Their families and friends are also on our hearts today.

Several of us have had the honor and privilege of visiting the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, which is the source of these photos.

The bicycle rack and its attached bikes were shielded from damage by their location in the World Trade Center plaza. The owners of the bicycles and their status remains unknown, but it is likely these belonged to bicycle messengers who were making deliveries at the World Trade Center at the time of the attack.

The Virgil quote, "No day shall erase you from the memory of time," was forged by New Mexico artist Tom Joyce from recovered World Trade Center steel. The quote is surrounded by the art exhibit, “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning,” which contains 2,983 blue squares--one for each victim--and each captures the blue that someone remembers as what the sky looked like on the morning of September 11, 2001.
