I love to cook. Which means I pay close attention to kitchens, not just as a designer but as someone who uses one every day.
A kitchen works hard. Prep. Cleanup. Storage. Conversation. Traffic flow. Often the entire rhythm of the household moves through it.
When the layout is awkward, when lighting misses the task areas, when storage is in the wrong place — you feel it constantly. Not in a dramatic way. Just in the small friction of every single day. That is why kitchen design has to begin with how you live.
Who cooks. How often. Where things tend to collect. Whether children gather at the island. Whether guests naturally drift in. Whether mornings feel rushed or evenings feel crowded.
A beautiful kitchen matters. A kitchen that works for you changes daily life.
A standard bath transformed through color, pattern, and contrast.
The rich green tile sets the tone. Drama. Personality. From there, marble-look shower walls, warm wood tones, dark surfaces, and softer metal finishes layer in to create something that feels both fresh and grounded.
There is an Art Deco influence running through the lines and the overall mood. It gives the space a sense of polish and quiet confidence without tipping into formal.
Smaller rooms can hold a lot of design. This one proves it. When the direction is clear from the start, even a modest footprint can feel layered, distinctive, and beautifully finished.
A room does not need to be reimagined to feel entirely different.
Sometimes it just needs more warmth. More balance. A clearer sense of how the people in it are meant to move and live. Better flow. Softer layers. More intention in the details.
That is what I am always looking for in a project like this. A visual change and a shift in how the home feels to be in every day.
The before and after tell part of the story. The feeling of the room in the end tells the rest.

Experience shows up in the quiet things. In the questions asked early. In the details caught before they become problems. In the ability to hold the bigger picture and the finer points at the same time. In knowing that a space has to work for the people living in it, not just look beautiful in a photo.
That is what I bring to this work.
With nearly 30 years in the industry, leadership roles in NKBA and NARI, and a career built on equal parts technical expertise and creative vision, I have always believed that trust is earned through process, care, and consistency.
At Twelve Stones Designs, the goal is to create something that goes beyond the visual. Something more considered, more personal, and more lasting.
What matters most to you when choosing a designer? I would love to hear in the comments.

The best outdoor spaces are the ones people naturally want to stay in a little longer.
For this nationally award-winning outdoor living project, every detail was designed to make gathering feel effortless. Thoughtful seating areas, layered lighting, and a seamless connection to the home all work together to create a space that feels refined, comfortable, and truly lived in.
We were honored to see this project recognized at the NARI National awards, celebrating the level of intention and craftsmanship behind every element.
The before and after is only part of the story.
What happens in between is where the real work lives.
The planning. The conversations. The coordination. The site visits. The decisions that quietly shape everything the camera captures later.
Good design is not a moment. It is a sequence. Every choice sets up the next one. Every builder, every trade partner, every detail on the plan connects.
This is what it looks like when a project is carried all the way through.
A polished bed is never about more. It is about layering with intention.
My formula starts with beautiful foundational bedding and builds from there. Each piece adds softness, structure, or warmth until the proportions feel exactly right.
I think about it in this order:
Crisp base bedding
Euro shams for height
Sleeping pillows that still feel tailored
One lumbar or accent pillow for shape
A coverlet or throw for that final layer of texture
When the proportions are right, the whole room shifts. Softer. More finished. More welcoming.
Get the layers right and the rest takes care of itself.
Save this for the next time you want your bedroom to feel more elevated.

This project started with a piece of art the homeowner already loved. That was the starting point. The color. The mood. The energy. Everything else followed from there.
Saturated green. Graphic pattern. Layered finishes. The kind of combinations that make a small room feel intentional rather than safe.
Powder baths do not have to whisper. This one does not.
Rich in color. Full of movement. Designed to stop you the moment you step inside.
I always love when a smaller room is allowed to be a little bolder. Sometimes those spaces are the perfect place to tell a stronger story.

As the season shifts, attention moves outside again. Mornings on the porch. Longer evenings. A quiet cup of coffee. Time with family. A table set for dinner when the weather finally invites you to linger.
This is often the moment homeowners begin to notice what could feel better. More comfortable. More connected to the home. More useful in everyday life.
Good outdoor design is not about adding furniture or refreshing a few accessories. It is about creating a space that feels intentional and supports the way you want to live this time of year.
Sometimes a change in season is exactly what it takes to see a space clearly again. ✨

Dining spaces still matter. Perhaps more than ever.
A well-designed dining area holds so much more than formal meals. It can be where homework spreads out in the afternoon, where coffee turns into conversation, where friends linger longer than expected, or where a weeknight dinner feels just a little more grounded.
That is why these spaces deserve thoughtful attention.
The scale of the table. The lighting overhead. The way the chairs sit in the room. The relationship to the kitchen and the surrounding spaces. All of it shapes whether a dining area feels inviting, comfortable, and easy to use.
Get those things right, and the room supports connection and daily life in equal measure.
