Kareem El-Ghayesh, the Egyptian founder and pitmaster of KG BBQ.

Kareem El-Ghayesh, the founder and pitmaster of KG BBQ, moved to Austin, Texas in 2016 after a long career in finance in Egypt, his home country. His only goal was to learn everything about Texas BBQ.

Since then, he obtained a culinary certificate, gained experience by learning smoking meats from Austin's top pitmasters, and now he is here to bring you BBQ that is cooked with love, passion, and most importantly, with a tasty Mediterranean twist!

Take a look inside my home kitchen, where the island is the centerpiece.

This custom island from feels like it was built around the way I actually cook and host:

The ventilated produce drawers keep ingredients fresh and close at hand. The custom inserts hold all the things I reach for constantly like parchment paper, gloves, and foil. There’s even a hidden pull-out waste drawer that keeps the workflow clean without disrupting the space.

My favorite part is the raised chef’s counter inspired by my love for hosting people in my home. I’ve always believed food tastes better when guests can gather around the process, ask questions, share stories, and be part of the experience while I cook.

The Maya Nut wood countertops are unreal. Beautiful craftsmanship, durable, and built to last through years of meals, late nights, and community around the table.

Double Cheers 🥂

Over 700 hungry BBQ lovers served, with a line wrapping around the building from 12:30-5:30, when service started at 2:00 and ended at 6. In Sydney, they call that dedication.

In Texas, we call that tradition.

Thank yall for coming out. We had so much fun bringing the BBQ gospel to you!

Fresh off the plane, already on the smoke

The honors of the first taste for our upcoming collab event with Travel Texas AU in Sydney had to go to Chef of and .
