Work in Progress - Austin, TX / Our team has been working on a new residence in Barton Hills, on a steeply sloping lot perched over the Greenbelt. From the street to the east, the house nestles into the site as a one-story volume, with stone detailing paying homage to the vernacular of the neighborhood. To the west, the house will open up to dramatic views and reveal a second story carved into the slope.

From structure to details - the arches of the window openings at Assembly Hall are echoed in the millwork forms at the bar and picked up in the wood paneling treatments on the walls. Rich oak textures warm up accents of blackened steel plate and grey-green hues. The arched motifs and industrial character subtly reference the Quonset hut language of sister space Fair Market. / w/ / photo:

Assembly Hall, in East Austin, marks the latest expansion of the team behind our beloved barrel vaulted Fair Market. Originally a Mexican bakery and most recently a pet relocation center, the existing tilt up concrete building has a completely remodeled interior and new exterior loggia space that expands towards an exterior open courtyard.
