Different Stages production of Dolores Diaz Man of the People continues tonight at Trinity Street Players.
The crowning achievement of this production is that of Sue Breland as F***y Fishbein, the elderly mother of Chuck Winkler's Dr. Morris Fishbein. F***y is dying of cancer. Breland has worked 40 years in Austin’s theatrical community and her dedication shows! F***y FIshbein has experienced the raw suffering of life. She is desperate for any hope that Brinkley may have offer a treatment that will save her – something more substantive than her physician son’s palliative pills. The wringing of her hands as she grasps the radio k***s after Brinkley’s final broadcast brought me to tears.

Review: THE MAN OF THE PEOPLE at Different Stages Different Stages’ “The man of the people”reveals how easily authority can be built on confidence rather than evidence, and how hard it is to dismantle once the audience is convinced.
