Here we are, 9 months after I reopened my gym/personal training studio following a 16 month shutdown in order to protect my family and my community from Covid, and I am still having to operate my gym solely as my personal training studio without being able to accept new gym members, other than personal training clients.
Why? Limited hours and no staff.
Thanks to everyone who's inquired about memberships, but we're in a different world now than when I ran my gym for the first 13 years. I'll update this FB page when and if things change, but the best place for news will always be the gym's website. WWW. Austinfitnesscenter.com. If you're interested in REAL personal training, please follow the personal training links on the gym's website, or simply visit www. completefitnessdesign com

Exactly 14 years ago, I founded the Austin Fitness Center. Mostly to get away from the pervasive ignorance and libido fueled bad behaviors that permeate the fitness industry. With my wife in grad school, and a 10 month old baby boy, I told the world to hold my beer, because I'm going to open my own gym and do it my way. I wanted to say to everyone who has been a part of my gym over the last 14 years, thank you very much. Your kind words and loyalty have meant the world to me over the years. Sadly, due to the ongoing pandemic, I have had to reinvent how I operate my facility, especially without any employees now. As most of you know, I have transformed my small neighborhood gym into my personal training studio. For the time being, this is the only way forward. I'm sorry I cannot offer you all a general gym pass these days, but we will see what the future holds. If anyone is interested in personal training, please feel free to reach out to me via the gym's website Austinfitnesscenter. Com or on my personal training website completefitnessdesign.com.

Since I have no staff, I have decided to essentially make what was my neighborhood gym into my personal training studio. Without staff, I'm unable to expand my hours of operation, nor accept new gym members other than personal training clients.
Due to the City of Austin's stage 5 Covid 19 risk guidelines and the too many people still unvaccinated in society, we are not taking on any new gym members right now. Please get your vaccine and let's be free of this virus so we can get back to business!!!
For those wondering if we will require members to be vaccinated, the answer is YES! Bring your vax cards.
No exceptions.
My gym has been closed, by choice, for 16 months in order to protect my family and the community. I suffered an enormous financial loss in doing so, but it was worth every penny. The safety of everyone is more important than anything.
This is a non-negotiable stipulation.
Well, in a big setback, I will still reopen the gym Monday July 12th, but with far reduced hours due to a staffing shortage. I'm going to still use my gym as my personal training studio for my clients and have it available to the general public as a gym, but now only between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on weekdays. Without staff for the time being, that's how it will run. If I can find good reliable staff, which a lot of companies are having a very hard time doing right now, then I can expand the hours of operation down the road.

The adults in my family have been fully vaccinated. My son who is 14, got his first shot today and my 12 year old daughter will get her first shot next week.
Jake, an awesome young man with a degree in kinesiology, who has worked with me in the past very successfully, and who is my right hand personal training man, and the heir apparent to my gym which I founded in 2007, is moving back to ATX so that we can relaunch the business.
We suspended operations for the sake of the community, as well as my kids, since March 2020.
*****I anticipate a mid-july reopening.******
I'm going to start from scratch with everybody. Whomever was a gym member when we suspended March 20th, 2020 per governor's orders, will not be automatically billed when we reopen. If they choose to return, which I hope they will, we will update their credit card information and restart the books... Just as if they are new. This goes for everybody. It would be too complicated to do it any other way.
On a side note, I have gotten so many messages and phone calls from long time gym members over this past year offering support, both financially as well as words of encouragement. While I have never taken a dime from anybody during the hiatus, nor have I received any PPP loans, I can't tell you how much it means to me that my gym holds such a place in your hearts. I never dreamed it would be such a revered place when I started this up 14 years ago with my wife in grad school, and our then 8 month old baby boy. I just wanted a place to train my clients without the usual crap that goes along with the uneducated and stereotypical personal trainers, and the typical nonsense that goes along with big box gyms that we all are weary of.
I humbly and very sincerely would like to thank every single one of you who has stood by me and my family throughout this pandemic.
I hope you all are healthy, strong, and safe, and I very much look forward to getting back to business literally, as well as figuratively.
Andy
Today is the 13th anniversary of my gym. Unfortunately, it's still necessary to keep it closed out of respect for the community's safety. I'm hoping for a late Winter/ early Spring reopening. Thanks to everyone who has reached out and meanwhile, be strong, healthy, and good to one another.

Here's the link to a question I answered from a follower of mine on Quora. "Is night time training more beneficial if you just go to sleep afterwards"?
Since sleep enhances muscle recovery, and muscle recovery process is max immediately after training -- Isn't gym workout best before bed? Andy Bruchey's answer: While that sounds logical, it doesn’t work that way. If you train and then slept immediately afterwards, you wouldn’t be feeding the muscles the protein they need to rebuild after you’ve broken them down in your weight training session. The first thing to do after traini...
