Happy bday to Mr. Howl himself, Maaaaaaatt !!!!
Matt is the reason all of us great howlings got together and is the masterful composer/arranger of all of our music. He’s one of the best people to have on your apocalypse desert island as a kind, supportive, and incredibly loyal friend. And he taught the whole world that autoharps exist and will indeed transport you.
He’s one of the first music folks I (Kate) met when I moved here and I’m oh so grateful for all he brings with his magic music and friendship.
One million howls for Matt!! 🐺🐺🐺 we love you!!!
If you want give him a present, go stream the Meet Your Maker EP! :)

Tonight's the night! Our EP release show tonight at is going to be one for the ages. All ages, that is. But also the first thing. 😤
We're celebrating the release of our very first record (have you streamed it yet??) with a killer show featuring two of our absolute favorites, and . Paige from Half Dream is going solo for this one, which will only make her haunting twang even more gutting than usual. 😭 As if that wouldn't already have all of us blubbering, she's also bringing in our very own to sing backup vox and tear out whatever heartstrings you still have left.
And what can I say about ? That they're undoubtedly 4 of the finest musicians in Austin and they play with an infectious joy on stage that it sort of gives you that feeling like when a puppy is so cute that you just want to eat it..? If that doesn't make sense now, come to the show and try and me I didn't absolutely nail that description.
As for Great Howl, we're already a big band but we're doing it even BIGGER tonight, playing our full catalog of songs (including a new one!) and bringing in low end powerhouse to play sousaphone for the EP songs.
Music starts at 8:30--don't miss it!

Our debut EP, Meet Your Maker, is out everywhere! We’ve been sitting on this work for far too long and it’s such a relief to finally let all of you hear it! Click the Linktree to check it out.
Matt here. Fair warning: these songs aren’t exactly lighthearted. They’re very much a product of their time, written between 2017-2020. Put simply, Meet Your Maker is a concept album about the Apocalypse. It’s deeply informed by the socio-political turmoil of that era mixed up with my teenage obsession with the darker parts of the Bible (I literally had quotes from Job written on my wall because I liked the dark/brutal poetry of the language. Emo Southern Baptist boys, I tell ya what. 🙃)
But don’t be dissuaded by the heavy subject matter—these songs aren’t meant to bum you out. They were cathartic for me when I wrote them, and I hope they’ll be the same for you. It was exactly the outlet I needed to get out the complicated feelings of grief, rage, and hopelessness I felt about what was going on in the world outside of the bubble of my home during the pandemic and in the years leading up to it. Fu**ed up as it may sound, screaming “The Earth is just a grave!” until I made myself hoarse actually made me feel a bit better. At least for a moment.
Thank you to all of the amazing people involved in the making of this record. Your thoughtful musicianship, time, and effort are the only reason I can be as proud as I am of this work.
Huge thanks and love to:
