ChrysalisQ Announcement from Mary Wilson, Director

Greetings, friends. I want to share with you a decision that I have contemplated the last few months. I am going to attempt to retire again, which in this case, means stepping down from my role as director of ChrysalisQ. My last event will be our back to school play day on August 16th. I look forward to seeing you then.

I am so proud of the organization we have built together and the opportunity we have given our families to simply have a place of joy, fun, and respite. We have worked to provide families with gender expansive and questioning kids a safe haven from the political challenges in our state. As I recently said to a couple of folks, “parents don’t have to explain their kids, the kids don’t have to explain their families. Everyone can simply grow into who they are.”

I believe having a foundation of community support makes all of us stronger and healthier. It has been my great privilege and honor to be on the ground floor of building such a foundation with ChrysalisQ. But, the time has come for me to hand off the exciting future to the next generation of leadership.

To that end, I am very excited to announce that the board of directors for ChrysalisQ have hired Adrianna Ortega to become our next Programming Director. Adrianna has been a member of the ChrysalisQ board the past two years, volunteered her time at our play days, and served as a lead teacher for CampQ, our summer day camp. Her involvement with ChrysalisQ, along with her experience as a Child Life Specialist with Wonders and Worries and Caterpillar Life, makes Adrianna an exceptional fit to become the next programming director for ChrysalisQ.

I hope you will be able to join us on August 16th as I hand off my responsibilities to Adrianna. Although she is a very familiar face to everyone, I hope you’ll also give her a warm welcome as she takes on this new position.

Chrysalis! has another play day coming this Saturday, May 10th, 10am - noon.

I somehow managed to buy 2 extra tickets to the women's basketball games this evening. Would anyone enjoy using them?

We've got a heart filled play day set for Saturday, Feb. 8th, 10am-noon. If you know of any LGBTQI+ families with elementary aged children, please share this information, especially those families with gender-expansive kiddos.
Also, for parents, caregivers, or any LGBTQI+ adults, you're invited to a special support session for these challenging times led by Mary Street Wilson, the director of ChrysalisQ.

Summer Camp registration is now open!
This year we're adding an early drop off at 8am for those families who need this option.
We're also adding a middle school group!

Camp is June 23-27, 9am-3pm
Costs per camper is $100.

I realize no one is looking forward to the upcoming Texas legislative session. However, regardless of whatever frustrating, disappointing, and/or hateful bills they propose targeting the trans community or the LGBTQI+ community, at ChrysalisQ, we will still be working to create a joyful, hopeful, and peaceful space for families to gather, build community, and support one another.
As the saying goes - we're here, we're q***r! Our voices will not be silenced!

Hi friends, as you may know, I'm the director of ChrysalisQ, an organization supporting LGBTQI+ families. We do monthly play days for elementary aged children. We had our first summer day camp this summer, which was a total blast. We also offer programing for parents at various times. These have included an information session hosted by HRC and Rachel Gonz, a creative writing class by Susan Lippincott Mack, a yoga class with Julie Oliver, a Trauma "101" class by yours truly, and more.
We offer all these events for free and we'd love to count you as a sustaining donor. Your support for as little as $10/month will help us establish a solid foundation to continue this necessary work in the state of Texas.
