Started a sprout from an old sweet potato and have continued to propagate it. Now we have sweet potatoes everywhere and have already eaten a few. Easy to do with regular potatoes as well but they won't handle the heat as well. Make sure the sweet potatoes have lots of room to run.

Morning nitrogen fixer! Did you know that you can harvest nitrogen from the atmosphere without doing any work? Certain species create a symbiotic relationship with bacteria that transforms nitrogen into a plant available form. This means the plant is loaded and can be used as a chop and drop mulch for long term nutrient release or added to compost tea for faster results. Keep an eye out for plants that produce seed pods, like beans. These are some of the easiest nitrogen fixers to identify, but there are many.

PSA- recently we suggested the use of straw as a cheap alternative to mulch, without explaining the concerns that go a long with it. It's standard practice to use broadleaf herbicides on fields for hay production. These herbicides are extremely pervasive and can be detrimental to all plants, other than grasses, even in composted manure. For this reason we should be extremely cautious how we source these garden amendments and only use them when a proper compost or mulch are not available.

Excited for the upcoming season. We have expanded our gardening operation considerably this season. Although exciting it does change how we used to garden and definitely comes with challenges. Anyone else acclimating to some new garden challenges??

Pests are a pain! These tomato hornworms will decimate an entire tomato plant in just a day or two. These can just be picked off but what do you do when the pests are prolific? We offer a few options for organic pest control and have a section on our forum if you have specific questions. Reach out or post your specific issue on the forum for a solution!

One of our garden prototypes working on a very large salad. Granted we have had several rains this season but we filled the reservoir on this bed once when we first planted seedlings back in november. That's 4 months of growth and all we have had to do is harvest.
