Now that ProtoHype Design is an LLC, I am setting up shop in Bastrop, hopefully by May this year. Why Bastrop? It's been on my radar ever since I saw this page from the book: "Clay Sculpting with the Shiflett Brothers." After finally finding the time to go there and feel the vibe, talk to residents and people in the art business, I realized this was a good fit. I'm not a stranger to Bastrop, I've visited many times on someone else's schedule, but never as someone considering a permanent move. I'll be doing my art and promoting other artists for 2 years and see where I land. The dream is to go from renting a space to owning my own full-fledged studio (abstract idea of what that actually means), and keep going until the lights go out.
ProtoHype Design is now officially an LLC! The address is a virtual one since my studio is also my home until my success allows me to have a business site. For now I will sell art I create online, create videos and put them on youtube, and take commissions on a project by project basis. You may contact me by email at [email protected] for inquires. Commissions and direct sales will have to be through ProtoHype Design's Venmo. Stay tuned for more updates as they develop.
It's been a long while, but I am finally renting a house to work out of, giving me room to sculpt and create content. I have saved enough that I can throw myself into my work and not have to take time away in order to work a mundane job that zaps all my time and energy. I'll do this for a year to see if I can make a living. If I succeed, I'll be buying a home and studio to continue my work, but also if there is enough money coming in, I will have Altruistic programs in place for helping the community with various needs, like a church, but with no religion behind the good deeds. No baskets shoved in everyone's faces asking for money, just a link for anyone who wants to contribute. No pressure. Same for my art. I will have a link to my professional venmo account and it can be used to collect a fee, but also for anyone who likes the content I'll be putting up on youtube and wants to see it continue.
venmo protohypedesign. I don't know what's up with the link. It doesn't seem to connect, so I guess just look me up in the venmo app.

This is a handle for a beer tap. I made it for the owner of a burger restaurant. The material is epoxy putty that cures rock hard. I made a mold incase he wants more, but the epoxy putty allows it to be a working prototype. It didn't hold the paint very well, so I'll have to try a different primer.

The TV special I saw that got me to say "I want to do that!" Unfortunately, I didn't exactly understand what I meant by "that!" and to make something like this without help or without "Hollywood connections" made this an impossible dream. With today's technology, I can actually make something with help from a small crew to build up from. This is what my "Oubliette" project is all about. The name is a tribute to these films and I will be making creature puppets, but none of it takes from the copyrighted and patented material of the Jim Henson company, but it cannot be denied that they are part of the core influences that shaped my life. Much love and gratitude to and (the other core influence)

I am now available to take orders for life-size portrait busts. My process is to sculpt it by hand, make a silicone mold, then cast it in resin. Order one for a loved one, pet, or favorite personality. Will do lifelike or caricature versions. Just email [email protected] for questions and ordering information. Generally a life-size bust will start at one thousand USD, but I'm willing to work with limited budgets. This is first come, first serve. Each Bust will take a strait week to finish, which means if I am working ONLY on sculptures for clients, I can do one per week. I will let you know where you are in line when you order. Thanks!
