Risher Martin | Built to Build

There is a lot of history hidden beneath the floorboards of an 1860's dogtrot located in La Grange, TX.

Stone piers, heavy timber floor framing, lapped joints, cogged joist connections, and wood pegs all still tell the story of how this house was built.

The original framing was fitted together and held with wooden pegs rather than nails — a small detail that says a lot about the craft behind the structure.

Projects like this begin with careful demolition, close study, and respect for the original work.

First day on the job.

Claire joined Risher Martin this summer as an intern while she explores Construction Science as a possible degree path.

Full disclosure: she had an inside connection — her proud dad.

She’ll spend the summer learning what makes our work different — thoughtful pre-construction, detailed planning, clear communication, disciplined project management, and the care it takes to build complex custom homes and renovations the right way.

All with the goal of creating a better building experience for everyone involved.

Good to have her on the team.

In this bathroom, weeks of planning preceded the installation of 24" × 48" Crema d'Orcia limestone from Tuscany.

Before a single piece was installed, every slab was dry-laid and reviewed on site. Full-scale mockups helped confirm the layout, coordinate fixture locations, and minimize cuts.

Plumbing locations determined stone joints. Stone joints determined fixture locations.

By the time the first piece was set, most of the important decisions had already been made.
