Start a Storage System: Keep all your medicines in one spot -- on their own shelf or in a labeled bin. Put them somewhere cool and dry where you're sure to see them, but out of the reach of kids and pets. Check the labels every 6 months and get rid of drugs past the expiration date. Throw away meds that are left over from illnesses you don't have anymore. Ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of them.

Do not use medicines after the expiration date. When medicines are expired, or are not longer needed, dispose of them properly.

I once knew a doctor who was so annoyed by the frequency of a pharmacy's phone calls that he didn't return them. One day a friend of mine who worked at the pharmacy tried to call; this doctor had prescribed a man who was already on a blood thinner a drug for chronic pain, and my friend was worried about potential interactions. As usual, the doctor didn't call back. The pharmacist did some research and found that taking the two drugs together can actually be deadly.

Mosquitoes are one of the deadliest animals in the world. Diseases like dengue, chikungunya, malaria, and lymphatic filariasis are transmitted by mosquitoes and continue to affect Filipinos. You can take simple measures to protect yourself and your loved ones against mosquito-borne diseases. If you're traveling to an area with known mosquito-borne diseases, consult a physician for a vaccine to prevent diseases such as Japanese encephalitis and yellow fever or if you need to take antimalarial medicines.

One of the easiest ways to ensure you're taking your medication at the right times is to place a sticky note on your mirror, kitchen cupboard, or steering wheel to remind yourself to take your meds. If it is difficult for you to remember whether you've already taken your pills, keep a calendar in a convenient location and mark the days off in a brightly colored marker each time you take your pills.

A saltshaker on the dining table makes it all too easy to consume excess salt, which can lead to high blood pressure. So put the shaker in a cabinet or pantry and bring it out only when you're cooking.
It's also a good idea to taste your food before you salt it. You may find it doesn't need more.
You can also try spicing up your food with lemon or lime juice, garlic, red pepper flakes, herbs, or a salt-free seasoning blend. Stock your fridge and pantry with your favorite fresh and dried herbs so you'll always have them on hand to flavor your foods.
