Verde Camp

Thanks again to everyone, it was a terrific 10 years! Over the last few months friends and previous guests have asked why we sold the houses and was it a good thing?

I will publish a redux (or two .. follow me over at https://medium.com/ to be updated) of our experience and lessons learned with Verde Camp, the short version is ... it was a great thing, but it is difficult to let go of something you've put your literal blood, sweat, and tears into. We came to the decision to sell the houses and the business organically; we certainly were not forced into anything. The new owners are really cool people who had an interest in preserving the character of the houses we'd worked so hard to maintain .. and had no interest in running a short term rental business.

So why move on? Our ratings had never been higher and the business was humming along great ... to go to the next level would require a substantially larger financial and time/energy investment to do right. Verde Camp was a good business, but was limited in what it could do within the current scope. It was not an easy decision, and one we'd been thinking on for a year before we got serious. From there, we took some of our own advice and said 'don't get stuck, life is short, forage new and interesting paths, be awesome'. After the new owners took over, we took an amazing family trip to Japan, Carrie is currently applying her legendary plant knowledge with an all-female gardening outfit, and I've got a 4 foot tall bronze statue of a 'godzilla-like-creature' that will be revealed in central Austin in the next month. While Verde Camp has technically ended, it has absolutely enriched our and our kid's lives .. and we are better for having pursued our dream!
