Long live California modernism. Perched below the Griffith Observatory and overlooking Hollywood is a lush lot crowned with four towering olive trees and a 1965 home designed by modernist architect Craig Ellwood. When a young couple purchased the home in 2018, it needed substantial work. For a historic restoration, they called on , a local firm fluent in modernist history. While keeping original components like the home’s linear shape, open plan, and expansive windows, the team meticulously restored the home. “It was important to us to keep the structure because it really was classic Ellwood,” says Joe Dangaran, a cofounder of the firm. One of the property’s most striking features is the original koi pond—a feature deemed so essential that its preservation was a condition of escrow—that’s now crossed via a bridge that leads to a lap pool, perhaps the biggest intervention on the property. Throughout the restoration, a common phrase came to mind for Dangaran: “What would Craig Ellwood have done?” Take a stroll around at the link in bio.

But she has a different interpretation. “I like character, patterns and color,” emphasizes the local native, whose interiors mirror what she loves about Miami: its mix of Cuban architecture, Old Florida design, Art Deco pizzazz and 1980s vibrance, all juxtaposed against modernist influences.⁠

The World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play returns to the Austin Country Club, albeit for the final time, this week and boasts its usual spectacular field paced by world’s No. 1 and favorite son Scottie Scheffler.

After a successful run since 2016, this is the last time the Dell Match Play will held at the Austin Country Club. But it's a strong field — 64 of the top 77 players in the official world golf rankings are expected to be on hand this week when the five-day tournament begins tomorrow!

Built in 1933, this Bauhaus-inspired home was designed for the family of well-known composer and pianist Henry Cowell by the renowned master architectural firm Morrow & Morrow, a few years after Irving Morrow designed the architectural components of the Golden Gate Bridge. After finding a 1960s residence they loved on a tree-lined street in West Meade, Interior Designer Connie Vernich and her husband forged ahead with a full-scale renovation informed by their travels. “We love the warm, light woods and comfortable ease of homes in Napa, California,” explains Vernich, adding that her and husband’s deep love for Provence, France, also heavily influenced the design. Add a dose of neoclassicism, some crisp strokes of black, and a few risks not taken with previous projects, and you get the perfect mix. ⁠
