International Space Elevator Consortium: Study Reports — International Space Elevator Consortium 05/07/2026

It's taken over two years, but the latest study from the International Space Elevator Consortium, "Powering the Space Elevator," is available for free on our website https://www.isec.org/studies/
It will soon be available in paperback from lulu and other book sources.

International Space Elevator Consortium: Study Reports — International Space Elevator Consortium Space elevator studies seek to advance knowledge in the field of space elevators. Each year one or more studies look at an issue of particular concern, such as climber designs, simulations, space debris, economic impact and alternate space elevator designs.

Mark your calendars!!

The International Space Elevator Consortium (ISEC) is holding its annual conference and workshop on September 6th and 7th, 2025.

This year's conference will be virtual, with the Sept. 6th agenda scheduled so that participants from North America and Asia can easily attend. On Sept. 7th, it will be scheduled for attendees from Europe and North America.

There will be workshops and presentations on a variety of space elevator topics. A call for abstracts inviting researchers to present their work will be released soon.

I'm standing next to the 5,000 gallon water tank I helped design for the Eos experiment in Berkeley, CA. We will be instrumenting it with PMTs to test out water-based liquid scintillator.

This is SFGD, a box containing ~two million plastic scintillator cubes and it will get >60,000 wave length shifter fibers to replace the fishing lines currently strung through holes in the cubes. SFGD is a new concept tracking calorimeter. Bartoszek Engineering did much of the design work on the box and helped finish the assembly during the closing of the downstream and top panels. The box will be attached to the stainless frame in the middle of the ND280 magnet by the aluminum corner brackets.

A rare view of the ND280 detector open. BE just finished two weeks working in Japan to assemble the Super Fine Grained Detector that will go in the silver frame in this picture sometime in March, 2023.
