It’s IEP season!

What is IEP?

IEP = Individualized Education Plan; an individual learning plan to assist a child with a disability in achieving academic success.

As a special needs parent, I know this season can feel overwhelming.

As we prepare for our son’s meeting, here are a few practical things that has helped us:

📕 Take time to review all documents before the meeting.

📗 Let trusted friends and family know the meeting is coming up and how they can support you.

📘 Get an extra set of eyes to look over the documents.

📕 Ask questions, even the ones that feel small.

📗 Don’t agree to what’s on paper unless you wholeheartedly understand and support it.

📘 Remember, you are your child’s advocate.

📕 Make sure you know your parental rights (you should always be given a copy)

🏖️ Here are 3 helpful things to keep in mind for a safe and fun day:

🛟 Beach Warning Flags: Pay attention to the flag colors—they indicate whether it’s safe to swim or not.

🛟 Lifeguard Stations: Locate the nearest lifeguard station. Lifeguards are CPR certified and equipped with AEDs and other medical gear to save lives, whether it’s yours, a family member’s, or a new friend you made over a game of co****le.

🛟 Security Surveillance: Know that security is consistently monitoring the beach to ensure your safety.
