Happy first day of summer! ☀️

The longest day of the year is a good time to enjoy everything Maine has to offer — our trails, lakes, farms, coastlines, downtowns, and neighbors.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful start to summer.

Today is Juneteenth, marking the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned of their freedom.

It is a day to honor the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans, and to recommit ourselves to the work of justice, equality, and freedom.

My wife, Christi, and I are heartbroken by the passing of Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury, who died from injuries sustained while responding to the fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber.

For years, Assistant Chief Woodbury answered the call when his community needed him. His loss weighs heavily on Searsmont, across Waldo County and throughout Maine’s firefighting community.

We are holding his family, friends, fellow firefighters and all who continue to recover from this tragedy close in our hearts. Waldo County has experienced unimaginable loss, and we will continue to stand with our community as we grieve, heal and support one another.

Happy Flag Day.

Today, we honor the American flag and the ideals it represents: democracy, service, sacrifice and the ongoing work of building a country where freedom and opportunity are real for all.

Happy National Trails Day! 🌲

Waldo County is home to so many beautiful places to walk, hike and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re visiting a local trail, exploring a preserve or just taking a few minutes outside, today is a good reminder of how lucky we are to live in Maine.

On this day in 1944, Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in one of the most consequential moments of World War II.

We remember the courage of those who served, the sacrifice of those who never came home, and the responsibility we share to protect the freedoms they fought for.
