Whether it’s an axe on the fireground, a hose line at a call, an SCBA on their backs, or the everyday support and encouragement given at home — fathers and father figures use countless tools to help shape the people and communities around them.

This Father’s Day, we want to thank all the dads, stepdads, grandfathers, pet dads, mentors, and father figures in our department and community. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the lessons you pass on, and the support you provide.

From our fire family to yours, Happy Father’s Day.

Juneteenth, observed each year on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Today, Juneteenth serves as a time to reflect on freedom, resilience, history, and the continued pursuit of equality for all.

As we honor this important day in American history, we encourage our community to take time to learn, reflect, and celebrate safely with family and friends.

Recently, the King County Fire Training Consortium hosted Trench Rescue training at Station 95. Firefighters from across the zone — including Renton Regional Fire Authority, Eastside Fire & Rescue, Puget Sound Fire, South King Fire, King County Fire District #2, Valley Regional Fire Authority, Enumclaw Fire Department and other regional agencies — came together to sharpen critical rescue skills.

Trench rescues are among the most dangerous technical rescue incidents responders face. Entering an unprotected trench can be extremely hazardous, as trench walls can collapse without warning — trapping, injuring, or burying someone in seconds. During this training, crews practiced hazard recognition, trench stabilization, victim removal, and safe rescue operations in simulated emergency scenarios.

SAFETY REMINDER: 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿

Warm temperatures can turn a vehicle deadly in minutes. Even on a 70-80° day, inside vehicle temperatures can quickly rise well above 100° — and cracking windows does almost nothing to help.

𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲.

Children and pets are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness and heatstroke. Washington State law prohibits leaving children or animals unattended in a vehicle (RCW 46.61.685, RCW 9.91.060, RCW 16.52.340).

✔️ Look before you lock
✔️ Keep your cell phone in the back seat as a reminder
✔️ Keep parked vehicles locked
✔️ Call 911 if you see someone in distress inside a vehicle
