HOW MUCH HELP WILL THE HURRICANE VICTIM GET?
Not much!

FEMA – they all will qualify for FEMA assistance. The maximum FEMA pays per household is $30,000 with the average payout being $1500. There is only so much money to go around.

Homeowners Insurance – the good news is for those who sustained wind damage and has a good policy will be made whole. They should get money to find temporary shelter while their homes are being re-built at little to no expense up to their policy limits. The bad news is that those impacted by the flooding caused by hurricanes and other disasters, unless they have a separate flood insurance policy, are not covered by homeowners insurance.

Flood Insurance – Most insurance companies do not offer flood insurance. There is a government backed insurance policy available BUT to only those homeowners located in a designated flood plain (a government designated area.)

So, what can you do? Donate to your choice of Hurricane Harvey and/or Hurricane Irma relief funds. To protect yourself and your family this is a good reminder to stock up on emergency supplies and provisions.

Finally, take the time to get an insurance review to make sure you are as covered as possible for any potential unforeseen issues that may occur in your life. Give me a call and I’ll give you a free/no obligation review. There is no better time to make sure you are properly covered.
