Say hello to Library #126!

Earlier this month, an incredible team of volunteers came together to bring a brand-new library to life at Rafael Leonardo Callejas Elementary School. Even amid a heat wave and a teacher strike, volunteers and community members came together to make this library a reality.

Today, 375 students have access to a collection of more than 750 books—opening doors to imagination, discovery, and a lifelong love of reading.

The excitement from students has been contagious, and we've been deeply moved by the outpouring of support from parents, teachers, and community members who helped make this dream a reality.

We can't wait to see how this library inspires young readers, sparks curiosity, and creates new opportunities for learning for years to come.

¡Démosle la bienvenida a la Biblioteca #126!

A principios de este mes, un increíble equipo de voluntarios se unió para hacer realidad una nueva biblioteca en la Escuela Primaria Rafael Leonardo Callejas. Incluso en medio de una ola de calor y una huelga de maestros, voluntarios y miembros de la comunidad trabajaron juntos para hacer posible este proyecto.

Hoy, 375 estudiantes tienen acceso a una colección de más de 780 libros, abriendo puertas a la imaginación, el descubrimiento y un amor por la lectura que puede durar toda la vida.

La emoción de los estudiantes ha sido contagiosa, y nos ha conmovido profundamente la enorme muestra de apoyo por parte de padres de familia, maestros y miembros de la comunidad que ayudaron a hacer realidad este sueño.

Estamos emocionados de ver cómo esta biblioteca inspira a los estudiantes, despierta su curiosidad y crea nuevas oportunidades de aprendizaje durante muchos años.

Desde Chispa Project daremos inicio al proceso de selección de centros educativos para ser parte de nuestro Programa de Bibliotecas Escolares 2027.

• 📍 Cortés: (zona de Peña blanca, Los naranjo y alrededores)

✅ Atiendan estudiantes desde Prebásica, 1ro, 2do y 3er ciclo.
✅ Tengan una matrícula mayor a 250 estudiantes.

Books are powerful teachers when children can see themselves in a story.

At Amílcar Rivera Calderón Elementary School, 1st grade students and their teacher, Ms. Amelia, explored I Love Who I Am, a story about appreciating and valuing our bodies. To make the story accessible for young readers, Ms. Amelia guided students through the book by focusing on its illustrations, connecting what they saw to what they read.

Afterward, students created drawings inspired by the story, each proudly declaring, "I love who I am." We love seeing how books are used to help students understand more about themselves and build their self-confidence!

Los libros son poderosos maestros cuando los niños pueden verse reflejados en una historia.

En el CEB Amílcar Rivera Calderón, los estudiantes de primer grado y su profesora, Amelia, exploraron Me encanta como soy, una historia sobre apreciar y valorar nuestro cuerpo. Para hacer la lectura accesible a los pequeños lectores, la profesora Amelia los guió a través del libro enfocándose en sus ilustraciones y conectando lo que veían con la historia que iban descubriendo.

Después, los estudiantes realizaron dibujos inspirados en el cuento, cada uno proclamando con orgullo: “Me encanta como soy.” ¡Nos encanta ver cómo los libros ayudan a los niños a conocerse mejor y a fortalecer su confianza en sí mismos!

Sometimes a small change can make a big difference.

In her second-grade classroom at Alejandro Alvarenga Elementary School, Ms. Miriam brought story time to life during a read-aloud of Peppa Pig: School Bus Trip. Using the techniques emphasized in our teacher training, like expressive gestures, movement, and holding the book to display illustrations, she kept students engaged from beginning to end.

Notice anything about where the kids are sitting, though? Students were seated on top of their desks, creating a sense of novelty that captured their attention and gave everyone a clear view of the story. This is a wonderful example of how thoughtful read-aloud practices can turn reading into an interactive and memorable experience!

A veces, un pequeño cambio puede marcar una gran diferencia.

En su aula de segundo grado del CEB Alejandro Alvarenga, la profesora Miriam dio vida a la hora del cuento durante una lectura en voz alta de Peppa Pig: La Excursión. Utilizando las técnicas que promovemos en nuestras capacitaciones docentes, como los gestos expresivos, el movimiento por el aula y la forma de sostener el libro para mostrar las ilustraciones, logró mantener a sus estudiantes atentos y participativos de principio a fin.

Pero, ¿ha notado dónde están sentados los niños? Los estudiantes se sentaron sobre sus pupitres, creando una sensación de novedad que captó su atención y les permitió tener una mejor vista de la historia. Este es un excelente ejemplo de cómo las prácticas intencionales de lectura en voz alta pueden convertir la lectura en una experiencia interactiva y memorable.

We're wrapping up our first week of Read for Change, and all we can say is: WOW!

Last week, as part of our library inauguration at Raúl Zaldívar Elementary School, we were honored to welcome two Honduran children's authors who spent the day reading with students and leading interactive activities inspired by their books. Help us celebrate Ana Ruiz, author of and Óscar Flores , author of Lempira, Primer Superheroe!

The highlight of the day was watching students meet authors whose books they had the chance to read and enjoy. By the end of the event, children were asking for autographs and photos, giving these authors the well-deserved celebrity treatment! Moments like these inspire kiddos in important ways: when children meet the people behind the stories, they begin to imagine new possibilities for their own futures.

Thank you, Ana and Oscar, for sharing your creativity, passion, and time with our students. We look forward to future collaborations that inspire the next generation of readers, writers, and dreamers.

La semana pasada, como parte de la inauguración de nuestra biblioteca en CEB Raúl Zaldívar, tuvimos el honor de recibir a dos autores hondureños de literatura infantil que compartieron el día con los estudiantes, leyendo sus libros y realizando actividades interactivas inspiradas en sus historias. ¡Ayúdennos a celebrar a Ana Ruiz, autora de Monstruo de los Números, y a Óscar Flores, autor de Lempira, Primer Superhéroe!

El momento más especial del día fue ver a los estudiantes conocer a los autores cuyos libros tuvieron la oportunidad de leer y disfrutar. Al finalizar la actividad, los niños y niñas les pedían autógrafos y fotografías, dándoles el trato de celebridades que tan merecidamente recibieron. Momentos como estos inspiran a los pequeños de maneras muy importantes: cuando conocen a las personas detrás de las historias, comienzan a imaginar nuevas posibilidades para su propio futuro.
