Book Girl Magic
A space for our own to be able to read, discuss and share ideas while celebrating diverse literature and sisterhood. Welcome to Book Girl Magic (BGM).
As members of the African American community, we wanted to create a space for our own to be able to read, discuss and share ideas about the books we read. The books are not limited to African American authors, but we wanted to create a space in which fellow African Americans can bond over good reads. We plan to vote on the book of the month so that everyone has input on what they'd like to read. We look forward to the creating memories through reading and fellowship.

Went to Detroit this week for an annual convening as part of my work. Last year I went to the and had the best time. This year I decided to bring my camera and explore the beauty of the city myself. It did not disappoint. Detroit is definitely a city you shouldn’t sleep on. It’s easily become one of my favorites over the past couple years.

Our May 2026 Book Club Pick is here!
We’re going back-to-back with memoirs and this time we’re heading to 1970s New York City. My Soul Looks Back by Jessica B. Harris takes us into a vibrant era where art, activism and community collided, as she moved among cultural icons and documented the beauty of that moment in time.
Join us for the discussion on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 7 PM EST on Zoom. Let’s read, reflect and talk about it together.

Happy Pub Day, ! Big Girl Blitz officially hits shelves today and you all are in for a treat.
Major thanks to .audio for the gifted audiobook.
I was completely glued to this one…and let’s just say carpool pickup yesterday had me a little flushed listening to Jasmine and Lamar! 👀
Fun, bold, and all the feels. This one delivers.

Conyers Book Festival () is officially stamped as one of my all-time favorite bookish memories.
Over the course of the day, I had the absolute honor of speaking with and getting to know Ms. Beverly Jenkins, moderating a panel with some of my favorite authors and sharing space on an influencer panel with people I genuinely adore.
It was one of those days that reminds you exactly why you love this community.
A huge thank you to Tamara of for creating and curating such an incredible event. Watching the growth of the festival and seeing the community show up the way it did was truly something special.
What a time.

Nothing brings me more joy than coming across books that completely consume me. ✨
These are the ones I couldn’t put down…the stories that had me laughing out loud, wiping tears, and sometimes sitting there feeling downright angry. The kind of books that make you feel everything and remind you why you love reading in the first place.
If a book can move me like that, it’s an automatic win. What’s a book that made you feel something lately?
Here’s a quick lineup of my upcoming events:
• 📚 Conyers Book Festival: THIS Saturday, April 11th (Panels at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.)
• 📖 April Book Club Discussion: May 6th at 7 p.m. ET on Zoom
• 📖 IG Live with Nikisha Elise Williams: May 21st at 7 p.m. ET (We’ll discuss The Seven Daughters of Dupree)
• 💬 Black Romance Book Fest: May 29th–31st (I’ll be moderating a Sunday panel)
I can’t wait to see you all there!

There’s just something about a well-done audiobook… 🎧✨
Huge thanks to for the gifted copy! 💛
Finishing up Kin by Tayari Jones just in time for our book club discussion tomorrow and I can’t stop thinking about how much I loved experiencing this one on audio.
The narration by Angel Pean and Ashley J. Hobbs? Absolutely top tier. They didn’t just read the story….they brought it to life. The emotion, the pacing, the way each character felt so distinct…it made the story hit even deeper.
Now I’m curious…how did you devour Kin?

I didn’t think I could love a book as much as I loved Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson…but Keeper of Lost Children just proved me wrong.
This one right here? A winner. 🙌🏾
There’s something about stories that follow separate lives…different paths, different struggles…only to reveal how deeply connected they all are in the end. It gets me every single time and this book delivered that in the best way.
Now I’m sitting here like…yeah, I absolutely need to go back and read The House of Eve ASAP because clearly, Sadeqa Johnson doesn’t miss.
