Southface is excited to welcome Aliyah Jackson to campus this summer as our Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF) Summer Fellow supporting the BIT for Resilient HBCUs program.

This is also a special milestone for us as it marks the third year in a row that we’ve had the opportunity to host a fellow from Clark Atlanta University through the SOFF Summer Fellowship program.

Aliyah brings experience across engineering, STEM education, sustainability, and community engagement, and we’re looking forward to having her support the next phase of our BIT for Resilient HBCUs work over the next 10 weeks.

One of the most rewarding parts of programs like this is seeing students move beyond the classroom and apply their talents to real-world challenges and real communities.

Welcome to the team, Aliyah! We’re excited for what’s ahead this summer.

Tenants don’t renew leases because of a certification.

They renew because the building feels like somewhere they want to be.

So what’s the gap between a green building… and one tenants actually love?

Join us for a fast-paced, 𝟑𝟎-𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 where we unpack what’s working (and what’s not) at the intersection of sustainability, certification, and real tenant experience.

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡:
• What tenants actually expect from a green building in 2026
• How to make your certification efforts feel real to the people in your building
• What high-performing buildings are doing differently to drive retention

This is for property managers, facility managers, sustainability leaders, and asset managers who want their sustainability story to actually land with tenants.

We’re especially excited to partner with on this conversation, bringing a unique, nature-based lens to how buildings create meaningful, measurable experiences on-site.

And speaking of bringing sustainability to life…

Building Pathways for the Next Generation of Clean Tech Leaders

This weekend, the Southface Institute was proud to host a meaningful conversation alongside Sustainable Spelman, , and focused on accelerating the clean tech workforce across the African Diaspora.

Thank you to and for sharing their perspectives on leadership, innovation, mentorship, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us for an inspiring afternoon of conversation, connection, and collaboration.

On May 3, we celebrate Southface’s founding on Sun Day in 1978. This marks 48 years of advancing sustainability through practical solutions that produce lasting impact.

Our story began that day in Woodruff Park, where a group of passionate volunteers gathered for the very first Sun Day, a national call to action for solar energy that reflected a simple truth we still carry forward: meaningful progress starts with committed people working together on practical solutions that create real impact.

From those beginnings, Southface has grown alongside the partners and communities who have shaped our journey, helping turn local ideas into influence felt across Atlanta, the region, and beyond. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of that work.

We’ll carry that spirit forward on May 8 at our Sustainability in Action Roundtable (SART), bringing together local leaders who are tackling today’s challenges and “brightening their corner” through innovation and collaboration.

Join Electrify Decatur at noon on May 5, May 6, or June 3 to learn how electrifying your home can benefit your wallet and the environment. These workshops are designed to provide clear, practical information and connect participants with programs that make electrification affordable and achievable.
