BREAKING: James Speed, one of the most accomplished and influential coaches in collegiate cheerleading history, announced the end of his 42-year tenure with the University of Louisville cheerleading program.
“After 42 years with the University of Louisville cheerleaders, my time has sadly come to an end,” Speed wrote in a public statement Thursday.
Speed led Louisville to 47 national championships and helped build one of the sport’s most respected dynasties.

The Summit 2026 begins April 30 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The four-day championship will stream live on Varsity TV, with teams from multiple countries closing out their all star season in Orlando.

The Pro Cheer League announced expansion to six teams for the 2026-27 season, adding Houston Hustle and Kentucky Crush under industry coaches Allen Shearer and Misty Hodges.
The league will also double its schedule to 10 matches, with the season beginning in December and concluding in March 2027 at the Toyota Center during NCA All-Star Nationals.
