The Inner Critic Was Never Yours

You were probably taught that the inner critic is simply a personality tlaw to overcome.

But what if that voice didn't begin with you?

What if some of your self-doubt was shaped by oppressive systems, exclusion, survival family patterns, or environments that taught you to question your worth?

Let me remind you that psychological distress does not exist in a vacuum. The stories you tell yourself are often influenced by the social, cultural, historical, and political realities you have had to navigate.

The good news?

You do not have to believe every thought you think.

You can learn to observe your thoughts without becoming them. You can question inherited beliefs. You can challenge internalized messages that no longer support your life. And you can begin cultivating an inner voice rooted in truth, self-trust, compassion, and liberation.

If you're ready to move beyond selt-doubt, imposter syndrome, overthinking, and the inner critic, my workbook
From Inner Critic to Inner Coach: A 7-Day Liberation Journey

This guide provides reflective exercises, journal prompts, and practical tools to help you reclaim your voice and strengthen your inner coach.

I have a question for you- Which slide resonated with you most?

Save this post tor later and share it with someone who needs the reminder that they are more than the stories they've inherited.

A 7 Day Liberation Journey to Reclaim Your Voice, Challenge Inherited Beliefs, and Move Beyond Self-Doubt

The problem is not that you're broken.

The problem is that you've been carrying stories, beliefs, and survival strategies that were never meant to define you.

Many personal growth books teach us to silence the inner critic, but this workbook takes a different approach - a liberation centered approach designed especially for women navigating:

Racism
Sexism
Classism
Homophobia
Ableism
Ageism
And other forms of oppression

Self-doubt and imposter syndrom often develops within environments that repeatedly question your worth, safety, competence, beauty, intelligence, belonging, or humanity.

The goal is not to shame the inner critic.- it’s to transform it.

Greetings, my name is Gena Golden, a licensed psychotherapist, certified hypnotherapist, and coach. Over the years, I've worked with countless women who appeared strong on the outside while quietly struggling with self-doubt, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and the pressure to constantly prove themselves.

My work integrates liberation psychology, culturally responsive care, mindfulness, somatic practices, and neuroscience-informed approaches to support healing, self-trust, and personal growth.

This workbook was created to help you understand where those messages come from, challenge what no longer serves you, and reconnect with the wisdom, courage, and self-trust that already lives within you.

Throughout this workbook, you will move through seven stages of the Liberation Path™:

Notice → Understand → Separate → Challenge → Reauthor → Trust → Liberate

No need to pack a bag because the journey begins where you are right now!

Today is the perfect day to begin your 7 day journey from Inner Critic to Inner Coach to Reclaim Your Voice, Challenge Inherited Beliefs, and Move Beyond Self-Doubt!

Your inner critic did not appear out of nowhere.
For many women, especially those navigating racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, ableism, ageism, and other forms of oppression, self-doubt often develops within environments that repeatedly question our worth, safety, competence, beauty, intelligence, belonging, or humanity.
The goal is not to shame the inner critic.
The goal is to understand it. To learn from it.
To transform it.
And ultimately to reconnect with the wise, compassionate, truth-telling voice within you: your Inner Coach.

So much of what we call “self-doubt” or “being hard on ourselves” didn’t develop in a vacuum.

Sometimes that critical inner voice was shaped by environments where you felt judged, overlooked, dismissed, criticized, or like you had to constantly prove your worth to be accepted.

The first step toward freedom is learning to question whether those thoughts truly reflect who you are—or whether they’re echoes of experiences that taught you it wasn’t safe to fully be yourself.

Save this for reflection, share it with someone who needs this reminder, and follow for more mental wellness tips that help you decolonize your thinking and liberate your life.

You are becoming the person who questions the harmful beliefs, survival patterns, and emotional suppression that get passed down through generations. The one who chooses healing over silence, self-trust over shame, and truth over pretending everything is okay.

Not just for yourself, but for the people connected to you too.

Have you noticed that life feels really hard right now?

All of us are feeling it in some way, shape or form.

And it looks different for everyone.

Sleeplessness
Agitation
Easily overwhelmed
Irritability
Changes in appetite
Unexplained weight gain or loss
No motivation
Not doing what you once loved doing
Withdrawing from friends
Overly critical of self or others
Feeling hopeless about the future
Wishing you were no longer ‘here .

Everyone is struggling to keep it together it seems:

Children
Parents
Couples
Friends
Relationship

Not because any of this is your fault.

What’s happening globally including politically, and economically are impacting all of us emotionally and psychologically whether we know it or not.

These factors alone can disrupt, destabilize and dysregulate you. - all of us.

But we can do something about it.

Yes, we have the power to restore ourselves. We can do things that our ancestors did to regulate, calm and restore their sense of peace and humanity.

What did they do with limited resources access to affordable healthcare you ask?

They gathered.

They gathered in community to sing, laugh, and experience joy.

They prayed, rocked their bodies and hummed to ground themself and calm their ‘nerves’.

You can take the wisdom of our ancestors by engaging in a restorative practices like yoga, meditation, prayer, stretching, walking, dancing or singing.

If you are social justice oriented then get involved socially or politically. Write letters, protest or form a discussion group.

Try therapy for added support, accountability and transformation

The stigma against mental health support is fading. Don’t leave a valuable healing method behind for the sake of pride.

Research shows that more people in the black community have chosen therapy now more than ever before in HISTORY!

More men are showing up too!

Don’t let fear or uncertainty keep you from healing. Don’t let ‘ I tried it before and it didn’t work’ hold you back from trying again.

Your life deserves your attention and your challenges deserve to be overcome and your relationship ruptures deserve to be repaired.

So if you want to make whatever changes in your life or maybe you simply need someone to talk to (an objective professional) outside of your family or inner circle, please contact us today.

If you’re an international traveler coming to Atlanta for FIFA, don’t just prepare for the events and nightlife. Consider the condition of your nervous system and ways you can keep yourself regulated during major events and high levels of stress.

Last night while me and my significant snuggler (hubby) drove home (in the rain) from a gathering, i whipped out my phone and captured just a few shots of the city

Regrettably I missed a LOT because i was mesmerized by the lights and i couldn’t believe how my city’s skyline had developed since I’ve moved to Atlanta many moons ago.

Welp, it makes perfect sense though because Atlanta is always constructing something new.

And one thing is for sure, Atlanta will build an entire community overnight it seems.

There’s always something new to discover here.

I like my ‘little’ city.
