Matthew Lillard recently shared his thoughts on celebrity casting in animation, arguing that leading an animated film with only a voice is a unique skill that takes years of experience to master.

“The ability to carry a film, as the lead of a film with only a voice, is a power very few people have. The idea that they keep hiring inexperienced celebrities to lead major animated films is making it more difficult for the voice acting industry.”

Lillard believes professional voice actors are sometimes overlooked in favor of well-known celebrity names, and he hopes the industry will continue to recognize and value the specialized talent that voice acting requires.
