She was recognized in 1965 on national television for her trapshooting success when she appeared on the famous game show, “To Tell the Truth”. Vera “Punkin” Flock from Stonewall, Georgia was a legendary trapshooter and a pioneer for women in the sport, starting her shooting career at the age of 28 in 1947. Flock dominated women’s trapshooting from the 1940’s to the 1970’s.

Flock earned an accumulation of 20 years as an All-American, serving as captain four times and co-captain three times. She won 20 Major Championships at Grand American Trapshooting Association tournaments and captured 30 trophies total at the Grand American. She was only the second woman in history to fire at more than 100,000 single targets, reaching a total of 125,800 by the end of 1977 In 1972, she became the fourth woman to reach the elite 27-yard line (the maximum handicap distance).

Punkin was one of only four women in ATA history to score a near-perfect 99x100 in doubles, a feat she achieved in 1968. Flock used a Ljutic Mono-Gun, and is on display at the ATA Hall of Fame and Museum in Sparta, Illinois. Flock passed away at age 60 in 1978 due to ovarian cancer.
