LightSys: Serving the world mission community via technology services.

11/18/2025

In LightSys prayer meeting this evening, we're privileged to pray for several recent Code-a-thon alumni who are finding their footing in life after graduation.

Thankful that our work goes beyond computers and encompasses the relationships with the people who walk through our door and pass through our emails.

Summer intern wrap up. David Hopkins attended Code-a-thon 2024, giving him early access to a summer internship in 2025. He brought with him eager coding skills, flexibility, leadership, and guitar abilities which he used at the LightSys HQ and at ICCM.

David is wrapping up his senior year at Covenant College. Pray for God's continued guidance as he finishes his undergraduate studies and prepares for the next steps.

One of our ministry prayer supporters passed away recently. They never gave a financial gift. They never visited our office. They never hosted a traveling LightSys team or sent snacks for Code-a-thon.

But they prayed. And they shared those prayers with our team and encouraged us for years beyond what we can express.

They are rejoicing in heaven now, having been faithful to what God asked them to do -- including the "little" things like praying and encouraging the hearts of the LightSys team.

Well done, good and faithful servants.

"I didn't want life to be about "me" and "my dream job," the young CS grad said as we chatted about next steps in life. "I wanted to see what the needs were and how God might use me to meet those needs."

Thankful for the many humble, faithful hearts that come through our doors and the privilege we have to walk with them in this beautiful, messy journey of seeking first God's Kingdom.

From daily prayer and fellowship with God to behind the scenes work or cross-cultural ministry, we all have areas where we allow "life" to keep us from pursuing God wholeheartedly.

What is God putting on your heart? What is holding you back? Ask Him in prayer today to open your eyes and give you the strength and accountability you need to set aside hindrances.

"Those He save, He sends..." What a heart for the Gospel we see through the team at DiscipleMakers! Their student conference starts this Friday. Pray for the students, the speakers, the DiscipleMakers staff, and for the LightSys team as we mobilize computer science students to use their skills in missions.

Summer intern Minsik joined us from Computer Science and Engineering (Taylor University) and proved to be a skillful coder and excellent cook -- providing delightful Korean food for one of our discipleship nights.

God provided miraculously for Minsik's internship finances through a church he didn't attend. Through a series of unusual events, the church learned about his financial support opportunity and generously (and unexpectedly!) provided all the finances needed for the summer. Join us in praising God for His provision and in praying for Minsik as he prepares to graduate in December.

Introducing our summer interns: Sean joined us from University of Washington for a summer of software development and missions discipleship. He served on the worship team during ICCM and was always up for group activities. Pray for Sean as he dives into his junior year in Washington.

LightSys co-founder Tim Young traveled to ICCM-Africa in May to be the keynote speaker at ICCM-East Africa 2025. Thankful for God's work through Tim and through the collaboration of tech and missions in East Afica!

Phin Omondi Josiah Head of ICT Scott Christian Universty Kenya and Tim Young Ligtsys USA. Tim is among the first people who attended ICCM when it was begun many years back in the US and since then he has been a member. He is the one together with Roy Campbell who brought ICCM to Africa and the first conference took place in Kenya at PAC University.

Are you an East Coast techie? Missionary? Software developer with a heart for missions? Logistics person? Mentor?

Our Spring Break Code-a-Thon for Missions has impacted 450+ young people over the last 13 years -- giving them a vision for using their computer skills to help the nations hear about Christ.

We're prayerfully considering the idea of creating a similar event on the East Coast in the coming years. If you might be interested in participating in such an event in some function (mentor, organizer, or coder), drop us a note so we can start exploring ideas together.

We just finished Week 1 of Spring Break Code-a-thon for Missions 2025 with a great group of students from Cedarville, two professional software developers, and four missions mentors.

From a student at the end of the week...

"It wasn't until my senior year that I decided to make time for LightSys, regardless of the time it takes away from academics, to go and see what it was about. I was able to see firsthand the intersection of missions and the CS world. It just seemed to click. The Lord was telling me that I am called to Go. I am not certain of the timing, but I know for certain that setting my posture is important for walking out God's path in His timing."
