Look at the role clarity.
Look at the leadership alignment.
Look at the workload.
Look at the onboarding.
Look at the fit.

Turnover is a symptom.

Retention starts before the hire.

I still remember being told to dial into a conference line.

You know that kind of meeting where your spirit already knows what your calendar hasn’t confirmed yet?

I was being laid off.

The entire Talent Acquisition function was being outsourced, and suddenly I had to shift from being the recruiter to becoming the candidate.

And that moment taught me something I now teach every job seeker:

A job search should not begin with panic.
It should begin with positioning.

Before you start applying everywhere, ask yourself:

Is my resume current?
Is my LinkedIn saying what I want recruiters to see?
Do I know what kind of role actually fits this season of my life?
Am I networking with people who already know my work?
Am I chasing a paycheck or pursuing alignment?

That layoff hurt, but it also woke me up.

Sometimes the setback is not the end of your story.
It is the moment God forces you to stop moving on autopilot and start moving with strategy.

Candidates, before you mass apply this week, pause and position yourself first.

Your next move deserves more than desperation.
It deserves intention.

I never even considered Training & Development as part of my calling. I truly believed Talent Acquisition and Recruiting was the gift God gave me.

Then life shifted.

After a layoff ..and my entire department being outsourced to India …I was asked to train the very team that would be taking over before my exit.

I won’t lie… it was a painful season. I felt disappointed, overlooked, and honestly a little lost.

But years ago, someone incredibly wise, Kevin Wilamowski , shared something with me that never left my heart:
“Change doesn’t always feel good, but all good things come from change.”

What felt like an ending was actually an introduction to another layer of my purpose.

That one assignment pushed me into Talent Development, facilitation, and training. I discovered I didn’t just have a gift for finding talent… I had a gift for helping people recognize, develop, and maximize the greatness already inside of them (their super powers)

Now, because I embraced the pivot instead of fighting it, I’ve had opportunities to travel, train teams, and help organizations optimize talent around the world using behavioral science and people strategy.

Sometimes the closed door isn’t rejection.
Sometimes it’s redirection into a version of yourself you hadn’t discovered yet.

One thing I’ve learned stepping into growing businesses is this..

what leadership often calls a “team problem” is usually a people systems problem.

The founder (normally) is overextended.
Ownership is muddy.
New hires are undertrained.
Managers are reacting instead of leading.

And everyone feels busy… but not truly efficient.

This is the hidden stage many businesses hit when they’ve outgrown startup improvisation but haven’t yet built operational talent structure.

That’s the lane I run in. That’s the lane I thrive in!

Got a call from a founder in Florida who needed me for more than a consultant project but for Fractional work based on the business outcome ….

I jumped on a flight not just because Florida is absolutely beautiful ..

But also I take pride in being the “Olivia Pope of Team Design,” traveling to various locations to enhance team dynamics culture and provide infrastructural support where it’s needed most.

What an amazing experience!
