If you own and live in your home in Metro Atlanta, this matters:
Homestead exemption applications must be received by April 1 to apply for the 2025 tax year. That means filing with your county tax assessor/commissioner (Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb, Clayton, Henry, Forsyth, Douglas, etc.) no later than April 1 — otherwise the exemption won’t take effect until next year.

Homestead exemptions can lower your taxable value and save you money on property taxes, but you only get the benefit for the current year if your application is completed and received by April 1.
