This poem came naturally because there are so many black women in my life that mean so much to me.

Tired of this…
Tired of coming home with minimal energy for my family, because I keep giving work everything.
BUT moments like this refill my cup.
These tiny fingers in my palm really warmed my heart. He just needed me to show up today. That’s all.

I’ll never be too tired for that.

This was my first time performing this

I need help 😅

It took a long time to make this because campaigning for myself feels like begging 🥺
And that’s not how I want to be viewed.

I’ve been working hard to master my craft and spread my message through art. Thank you for helping me do that.
Now I have an opportunity to be recognized for it but I need you.

I hold your brother and sister with immense gratitude but I still want you.

I imagined this Valentine’s Day bringing you and your mother a gift at the hospital.

I imagined making jokes about having another Aquarius in the house.

I imagined you three playing together and driving me nuts by being so loud.

I imagined you with us today 🌧️

It hurt when your mama had to stop parking in the “expected mother” parking spot

It hurt to open up the pregnancy+ app because you were still alive there, so I just let the app offload into the cloud

Breathing hurt.
Smiling felt guilty.
Rainy days felt like a joke coming too soon from God.
I like to think your spirit is on the way in a new vessel.
I wrote you a lullaby that demands tears every time I play it.
I’m scared to write the notes down because a small part of me wants to forget it, but this lullaby for you lives in my muscle memory 🎹
