Using my hands and heart to create wood art with intention and care.

Atlanta area folks, have you visited Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium in Tucker yet? I spent some time there yesterday updating my display and adding some new pieces.

Then I spent a lot of time wandering the store and seeing what other local artists and makers have added. Their tables, walls, shelves, and even rafters are filled with a refreshingly broad variety of creations including unique, clever, beautiful, witty, functional, nourishing, wearable, and seemingly endless gift-able options. If you find yourself looking for a gift this weekend or anytime this spring, head their way and explore the possibilities.

Atlanta area friends, I am grateful and delighted to say that my art now has a home inside an exciting new business in Tucker. Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium(MDAE) is a gorgeously curated shop filled with locally created art, custom decorated clothes, body care products, unique handcrafted gifts and so much more. Located on Railroad Avenue just off the city’s Main Street, MDAE is also home to a growing makerspace, art gallery, creative classroom space, and third space for community.

I have no doubt that many of you will be as enamored as I am with what MDAE's founders have dreamt up and created with their care, intention, creativity, business sense, strong ethics, hospitality know how, love for local art, and knowledge of what the community around downtown Tucker wants and needs. You don’t have to take my word for it though, pay them a visit and experience it for yourself. They’re open Wednesday/Thursday 11am - 6pm, Friday/Saturday 11am - 7pm and Sundays 12pm - 5pm.

Every paw print that I create in my shop starts by cutting out each toe bean from wood, rounding all the edges with care, and then sanding their surfaces smooth. Only after they are all shaped and ready, do I glue these to the wood ‘fur’ of the paw. Once the pieces are all securely bonded, I head back to my scroll saw to freestyle cut the shape of the newly built paw using the saw’s small and mighty blade. I gently round those freshly cut edges and then sand the whole paw until it too is smooth. This slow and intentional hands on process is why no two paw prints that I create are ever exactly the same. I pour a lot of love into making these paws and I’m grateful that they’ve helped people do everything from celebrate newly adopted family members to memorialize furry best friends who were taken far too soon.

I began making these when StellaBatly ( my own pup ) started riding with me on the (then very long) drive to the workshop and spending her days there beside me. The paws began as a celebration of our love and those shared hours. I had no idea way back then that making these would one day be part of me slowly getting used to the quiet emptiness of days without the world’s greatest retired shop dog and truck copilot sleeping on my feet. Being loved by her was one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever known. I hope that some of that endless healing love finds its way into the wood of every paw print I send out into the world.

Thank you for your support on Small Business Saturday and throughout this holiday season. I am truly grateful to be busy here at my workbench working on your ornaments, special gifts, and some surprises too.
If you’re reading this from within the Atlanta area, I wanted to take a moment invite you to my last in-person event of 2025- and it is one that is dear to my heart. The Procrastinator's Pop-up is a community celebration that my friend Lalah of Extraversions Jewelry started hosting 11 years ago. It is a small, relaxed, and festive market that we curate with a focus on unique handmade items all made by local artisans.

Some of what you can look forward to exploring if you visit us in the Pine Lake Clubhouse on Sunday December 21st:

Plant dyed scarves and naturally colored yarns from Judy of Mama Jude's Plant Dyed Stuff

Lotions and balms to protect and nourish your skin made with care by Body Love Nature

One of a kind succulents planted in re-purposed planters with added whimsy from Sassy Succulents, Etc.

Candles decorated with handpicked flowers and intentionally chosen gemstones + deliciously scented sprays for your homes infused with reiki healing energy by Dana Young of Dragonfly Reiki.

I’ll share previews of what our other artists and makers are working on in the coming days. It is going to be a wonderful day here by our lake. Mark your calendars, friends. We’d love for you to come see us on Sunday December 21st between 11 and 6.

Somewhere over recent years, I’ve come to see Small Business Saturday as a celebration of gratitude. Not for ad drunk capitalism which admittedly birthed the day, but of humans like you who welcome art and those who make it into your days. A celebration of people who look a little deeper, opt for gifts with meaning, prefer handmade over cranked out, and care about how and why things are made. This is how it become the day when I release my limited batch of annual keepsake ornaments.

After this deeply challenging year, I needed to make an ornament to help remember we hold the light. The 2025 camping lanterns are my way of doing just that. I’ve listed 10 made from Mahogany and 10 created from Walnut, there may be a handful more when all are assembled- but this is a very limited batch release.

A full shop update has also gone live this morning, friends. There are new fidgets with, reduced prices on some of my tools for creatives, freshly finished wood art, and more new offerings too.

To celebrate your continued support of my work, every order placed between now and Tuesday will receive a small heart inscribed with hope. And while my stash lasts, orders over $60 will include one of my handcrafted keychains while orders over $100 will include a bag of love.

Thank you for your support! 💚🔥

I’ve been focused on ornaments in the workshop for the last few weeks in my workshop. Freshly sanded Ash, Cherry, Maple, and Walnut angels have shown up to join the choir. Stars have been born and a variety of pawprints have been lovingly shaped and assembled.

No peek at this year’s special ornament yet though. Keeping with tradition, I will release that limited edition ornament one week from today on Small Business Saturday. I’m really excited to share it with you- it’s an ornament I needed to create for myself and for you.

It won’t be alone though, I will also do a full store update at 9am eastern on Saturday morning. I’ve been so focused on creating, I haven’t listed a lot of of my recently completed works: like fidgets with some new beads, ready to hang wall art, and bud vase holders ready to bring beauty to your tables and spaces this holiday season and beyond.

If you’re in the Atlanta area, you are invited to come to the The Waldorf School Of Atlanta for their Holiday Fair. I’m very happy to be returning to enjoy the welcoming energy and creative spirit of this event hosted by the WSA community. Friday evening is the community night out for ages 21+. Saturday will see the school’s campus turned into an all ages wonderland of enchantment and activities to enjoy. I get a lot of my personal shopping done at this event; the vendors always have unique handcrafted offerings that make it easy to honor some of the folks on my list. Whether you want to shop or just get to know more about WSA and explore the fair, I hope you’ll come on by for a visit.
