We lost Ruffnut yesterday.

She was found by animal control trapped beneath a fallen traffic sign with one of her front legs completely shattered, hanging on by only skin and soft tissue. Without a rescue stepping in, euthanasia would have been her only option.
We said yes because she deserved a chance.

Ruffnut underwent an emergency amputation but never made it home. She went into cardiac arrest while recovering from anesthesia and despite the incredible effort of her medical team she couldn’t wake up.

We are absolutely heartbroken.

The past 48 hours reminded us that rescue truly takes a village. Thank you to the shelter staff who gave Ruffnut a chance, our volunteers who rushed her to safety, the incredible teams at Baranik Animal Care and SurgiPet who fought so hard for her. Thank you to our friendrs who immediately pledged donations to help cover her surgery before they even knew the outcome. Frankie's Friends immediately stepped forward to help with her emergency medical care, allowing us to move forward without hesitation. We are so grateful for their compassion and for believing, as we do, that every animal deserves a chance. One little community cat brought together an entire village

After her tragic loss, we learned Ruffnut was never alone.
Nicole had cared for her for years and knew her as Doppelganger. She had already been spayed through TNR, had food, her kitty family and friends, and someone who loved her. It doesn't make her loss any less painful, but we're grateful to know she was loved.

This tiny kitten was screaming his lungs out from underneath a car in a parking lot.

The owner knew there was a kitten crying and had been driving around anyway.

Thankfully, those amazing women didn't waste a second.

Kaitlin crawled under the car and rescued him before it was too late. Barbara stepped up to foster him until he's healthy and ready for adoption (and Kaitlin plans to adopt him when she's back from traveling!).

A huge thank you to Leslie, who immediately connected everyone so this little guy could get his first vaccine, dewormer and a plan for the next steps.

It truly takes a village. ❤️ Thank you to these amazing women for refusing to ignore a tiny cry for help.

If you ever hear a kitten crying, stop. Check under your car, inside the wheel wells, and under the hood before driving. Taking one minute to look can save a life.

We've all heard those words before.

But suffering is not nature. And dead kittens are not something we should accept as normal.

Seraphine's mother was still a kitten when she had her first litter. Seraphine and Sable were the only survivors. Their mother is gone.

Before she was even a year old, Seraphine had her second litter. Samson is the only survivor. Sable had two litters in her short life, and none of her kittens survived.

Three generations. Countless lives lost.

This wasn't inevitable. It was preventable. There are low-cost clinics. There are rescues. There are people willing to help. We need to do better.

The cycle ends here for this little family. They are finally safe, spayed and neutered and cared for as they have always deserved. Despite everything they've endured, they still trust people. Now they deserve a family that will never fail them again.

They never had a choice.

We do.

Sunday night rescue. 🐾

An incredible group of people refused to ignore a desperate cry for help. The kitten was stuck in the drain for 3 days!!! After two hours, they finally got this tiny kitten to safety.

He's on his way to the ER now with what appears to be a broken leg. If you'd like to help put him back together, any contribution toward his medical care means the world. ❤️
