SWEET SIXTEEN! Salt Lake City, UT, December 18, 2015: When Rian Kukla turned 16 in November, the biggest gift she wanted was to give back to a country and a people she loved. She asked her parents to support her in her wish to lead a humanitarian trip to Tonga and quickly began organizing fundraising events. The first event, a benefit concert, is being held in Salt Lake City, Utah at The Depot on Friday, December 18, 2015. The concert headlines Nathan Osmond, with Rian Kukla, Melody Pulsipher, Charise Payne, Sala Campos, and DJ Girish Rajaratna adding to the list of entertainers. The concert will also be catered by chef to the stars, Kevin McDaddy Jones of Snap Daddy’s BBQ! Rian’s goal is to create 1,000 hurricane preparedness kits for families in the South Pacific. Once the kits are prepared and shipped to Tonga, she will travel to the islands in May 2016, to hand deliver the kids and teach families First Aid. In 2014, a devastating hurricane hit Tonga and left 5000 people homeless. Many organizations assisted in rebuilding during the wake of the catastrophe. However, there is still a need to prepare the community for the next major disaster. Several families have been inspired by Rian’s love and passion for helping the Tongan people and are also planning on joining her on the trip to Tonga.
